There are a ton of apps available that are malware. Be careful what you download.

Just checked the permissions for my flashlight app:

 

flashlight app had access to gps location, camera, microphone, wireless network, could read and write SD card, could search for network connections.

Yes it does. There is a built in widget on my S5, but aftermarket apps are noticeably brighter.

My S4 did not have a flashlight app from the factory. But it doesn't have to be a flashlight app. I'm sure whoever is building these popular flashlight apps is also building other apps that do the same things.

I have a G'zOne, my phone has a flashlight widget built in, most phones made for working schlep's like myself do.
