I don't know if I agree with that anymore. I took apart my S&W 642 to do a trigger job. I was shocked to see how many moving parts and little springs revolvers have. A hell of a lot more than any striker fired pistol. I think I would opt for a striker fired pistol for my only pistol. Glock preferred.

Good choice but, asking revolver guys, when was the last time you squeezed the trigger on a revolver and could not resolve the problem by squeezing again? 

 

Again we're talking about an ONLY gun, not a favorite gun.

If you weren't limited to 15 rounds (or more likely, the next Democrat Governor makes 10 rounds the max), would you still have the same answer? I find the G17 to be a much softer shooting and accurate gun than the G19. And the extra grip length is appreciated by my big hands.

And even if I wasn't restricted to 15 rounds, I would probably still choose the G19 as my all around gun. While I love to shoot my G17, I am pretty much as effective with my G19, and the size is ideal for carry.

I have both just in case lol, as well as a 26 & 27. I have smaller hands I can shoot any of them. If we're talking SHTF the obvious choice is a 9mm. Especially for ammo availability reasons, that would be what your most likely to come across. Good luck finding .38 special or .357 when scavenging. Gotta say I'm digging the VP9 as well these days. Glock mags would also be easily found compared to other choices. Just really makes the most sense to me. A gun without ammo is a paperweight. It's also hard to point a revolver at someone unloaded and get away with it, in good lighting if you're out and trying to bluff.

Did you ever read "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy? The protagonist in that book had a revolver for self defense and carved bullets out of wood for that very reason. He only had two live bullets.

Excellent book. Very dark. It is about some unexplained apocalypse, and a father trying to survive with his young son. By the same author who wrote "No Country for Old Men", if you saw the movie.

I understand the "best" or "favorite" gun sentiment running through this thread. I'd definitely include 2 pistols in my top three favorites. But really guys to me an "only" gun is one you use for hunting, self-defense, and recreation, that works without fail, that's easy to maintain.

Lunk, that may be true, but remember the G19 is a bit compact as well, meaning you can conceal it if need be.  I think for most folks, that's important as only having one handgun means you want one you can do the most with.  At a cost of some barrel length, 2 rounds in the magazine, and a shorter grip, it still holds its own to the 17...

That is true. I wasn't factoring concealed carry into it. If you do, it probably overrides the eAsier shooting of the bigger gun. I have never tried concealing a full size service pistol.

Really not that much difference in shooting the G17 vs G19 IMO. The 19 is a better all around pistol.
