"Man hunting geese in New Jersey accidentally kills himself: police"

(Reuters) - A man hunting geese with his father in New Jersey shot and killed himself in what police said Sunday appeared to be an accident.

Police in West Windsor Township, about 40 miles northeast of Philadelphia, said the 45-year-old victim and his father were properly licensed to hunt the birds.

Investigators said it appears the victim died from a single gunshot wound to the head and neck from his own firearm on Saturday afternoon.

"Although incredibly tragic, it is believed that the incident was solely an accident," police said in a statement.

The pair, who were the only members of the hunting party, had Canada geese decoys spread out around the wooded area where they were looking for the birds, a news release said.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

At his own hand, with his own gun.

Unintentionally.  Regardless of whether it was due to being careless or not, there is now a family that just lost somebody unexpectedly.  You're a moderator on this site.  That means you should understand that making jokes about the unintentional death of a human being, caused by firearms, reflects poorly on all of us as firearm enthusiasts.

Take it up with Troy or Maks.  I was not making a joke at all, merely making an analogy.  I didn't beat the guy up because he did something stupid, I didn't brow beat his actions, negligence, poor firearms handling, or anything of the sort though ALL of those are reasonable accusations to make.

What harms the firearms community is being incensed at nothing and having no balls to confront idiots.  That's EXACTLY what the other side does.

Goose hunting. Leaned rifle on tree. Waiting for geese. Then went to grab it and. Well you can figure it out. This is from good sources. Always keep safety on until youre aimed at your target.

Who hunts Geese with a Rifle?
