High Exposure 5,661 Posted February 9, 2015 Slip 2000 Here is an 18 month side by side comparison after storing dirty guns: http://www.slip2000.com/blog/side-by-side-review-of-slip-2000-ewl-and-clp/ Full disclosure, Pat is a friend. That doesn't discount how well this product works.
RUTGERS95 890 Posted February 9, 2015 mobil 1 will be fine for long -term storage, I grease the action with a very thin coat and just rob an oil swap down the barrel and oiled cloth over rifle. Never had a problem
DeerSlayer 241 Posted February 9, 2015 Just cover it in an inch of Cosmoline lol... No I'm kidding, don't do that! Using a silicone cloth works wonders, it really does a good job of protecting gun finishes. I've seen silicone impregnated gun socks as well for long term storage. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/590290/midwayusa-silicone-impregnated-gun-cleaning-cloth

Smokin .50 1,907 Posted February 9, 2015 I wipe all my guns down with Barricade. Works great. ^^^^^THIS^^^^^ Works great for black powder guns too. And if it works for black powder (corrosive X 10) it will work for anything you mere mortals will throw at it, lol!
PD2K 115 Posted February 9, 2015 For gun oil, I use Mobil 1, but any high quality synthetic motor oil will do. For gun grease, I use any high temp lithium wheel grease. But for long term storage, I prefer grease over oil.
RecessedFilter 222 Posted February 9, 2015 I use any motor oil I have laying around, usually motorcycle synthetic. I didn't jump on the motor oil bandwagon until somewhat recently. I've tried the expensive gun oils but I just see no difference. I'd rather buy more guns than spend 30 bucks on some tiny 4oz bottle of specific 'gun' lube. Vlad G 345 Posted February 9, 2015 Define long term storage. One day when I was visiting the Metropolitan Museum in NYC, I asked one of the curators how they preserve the guns and swords in their weapons section. The answer was "A medium coat of Murphy's Oil". I've since then used that on a number of metal and wood surfaces for long term storage with great success.

I do not inlcude myself in that group:)

Dan 177 Posted February 9, 2015 Here's a good unofficial test to look into. Personally I use eezox, slip ewl, and g96 treatment. Eezox for protection, g96 for cleaning, ewl for wet lube. http://www.6mmbr.com/corrosiontest.html
Blacksmythe 71 Posted February 9, 2015 I use Mobil 1 also for storage. I clean it, hit it with WD40, Lithium grease in the action, coat in thin film of mobile 1 seal it in plastic. But that murphy oil is genius! One step.
ccrides350 1 Posted February 9, 2015 Wow, I didn’t know people used Mobil 1 for storage. I guess it makes sense when you think about it. I will keep that in the back of my mind for the future. I have always used Barricade without any complaints. I have a micro fiber towel that I only use with Barricade for wiping my firearms after handling and putting away in the safe. Also you should try high temp lithium wheel bearing grease. I prefer grease to oil as it "stays where I put it." A can of that and quart of synthetic motor oil will last you forever! There is nothing better unless you are paying out the nose which may.....MAY.....give you only marginal benefit over the mobil

DaveR 42 Posted February 11, 2015 From the old airgun days I've used Beeman MP-5 Metapholic oil for external.
average joe 5 Posted February 14, 2015 CLP, its actually made for guns !
High Exposure 5,661 Posted February 15, 2015 In my experience things that try to do everything do none of them well. I do not use CLP. But I do use a cleaner, a lube, and a protector.

ChrismNJ 0 Posted February 22, 2015 Corrosion Technologies 50010 CorrosionX for Guns outstanding product been using it for 4 years now. there is a guy on youtube that did some testing check it out
usnmars 136 Posted February 22, 2015 I gotta find the article but a gun rag recently did long term testing on corrosion prevention and the best hands down was WD-40 Specialist corrosion prevention. The results were so huge of a difference that a few museums started using it.
magnawing 5 Posted February 22, 2015 You guys do know that WD-40 was originally developed as a corrosion preventative for use on the Atlas Missile. The name is actually derived from Water Displacement - attempt 40 This signature is AWESOME!!!
Howard 538 Posted February 22, 2015 Olive oil !
usnmars 136 Posted February 22, 2015 ok a quick stupid thing with olive oil. I was given a k98 bringback from the vet that brought it home. He was never a true gun nut and never had gun oils so he used olive oil for the past 60 years. Well when he gave it to me the gun was almost sticky from dried out olive oil. took about a month of soaking to get it clean but it cleaned up nicely. Howard 538 Posted February 22, 2015 I was joking when I said Olive Oil, everyone knows Sesame oil is much better
