Kineti-Tech Muzzle Brake with shroud - NJ Legal?

So I'm thinking about getting one of these:

Basically a muzzle brake with external threads that a removable external shroud can thread onto:

 

 

NJ legal on an AR?  Any problems with exposed threads ON THE BRAKE, and not on the barrel?

Once the brake is pinned to the barrel, it becomes part of the barrel so the threads become an evil feature.

I suppose you could also solder the shroud on.

Isn't the shroud a flash hider? I say no go. You'll have to knock off the external threads

From a practical stand point that shroud is also going to make the comp part not work anywhere near as well as it should, so I have no idea what they are really trying to do, besides selling a thing.

Thanks Paul, I hadn't considered the flash hider aspect.

 

Vlad G. - the idea behind these is that they direct muzzle concussion forward, reducing the noise/pressure felt by your port neighbors if you're shooting indoors or close to other people

Oh I know and I wish everyone around me used one, but the design has to reduce the effectiveness of the comp, so personally I rather have the better comp. I'm ok with other people using it

I liked the idea because the shroud was removable - run with it "wide open" when you're not trying to be a good port neighbor, throw it on when you have someone taking a new shooter for their first range outing in the next port. 

 

There's also another aspect to having that particular thread pitch on the outside of the brake that might come in handy in a SHTF situation...

 

Oh well, I'll add this to the "things I'll buy when I move to America" list.

You'll lose the shroud aspect, but if you like the comp you can call TROS and tell them you want a thread protector for the 13/16-16 and then solder it. Get plenty of clearance in the thread protector opening (full throat)

I have two issues that come up

 

these don't hide flash so are they really considered flash suppressors

 

If they aren't flash suppressors then does it matter if the barrel is threaded since it wouldn't be threaded and capable of attaching a flash suppressor

What about griffin comp and blast shield? Comps are not threaded and blast shield is qd.
