FishNHard 145 Posted March 17, 2015 I was wondering what you guys mostly use plated or hard cast bullets for reloading is there a big difference one over the other.
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted March 17, 2015 Personally I prefer plated as I don't want to handle lead directly... also cuz I got kids around in the house so I don't want them touching lead.
carl_g 568 Posted March 17, 2015 I used plated. Same reasons as above.
silverc6 0 Posted March 17, 2015 Check out ibejiheads.com Coated bullets so you're not handling lead and a lot cheaper than jacketed like Montana Gold. Unless you're shooting major pf open guns (and I think they have bullets for open guns), Ibeji bullets are very accurate and clean.
fishnut 2,358 Posted March 17, 2015 I used lead because its cheaper. I reload with gloves on though.
Steve_G 51 Posted March 17, 2015 I have used cast (Missouri Bullets), plated (Xtreme Bullets), and coated (Bayou Bullets and Ibejihead Bullets). They all work fine, I have been using the Ibejiheads for about a year and a half now and will probably continue to use them. The bonus there is they are from a local guy (Alex in Belleville, NJ) and he will meet at the Old Bridge USPSA matches to save you the shipping costs. AverageJoe 95 Posted March 17, 2015 Heavy plated from Xtreme cause they're nice n shiny.
10X 3,296 Posted March 17, 2015 Almost exclusively lead, but I'm not pushing them very fast in target loads, so leading isn't a concern. And I'm not worried about elemental lead being absorbed through my skin-I just wash my hands well when done, and don't eat or drink while loading. T Bill 649 Posted March 17, 2015 I prefer the coated. Still have lead hard cast and plated. Will continue to use all three.
DargZ 5 Posted March 17, 2015 +1 for Ibejiheads. It sure beats paying for shipping and Alex's a great guy to deal with. He'll also help you with load information if you need.
ronhonda 86 Posted March 18, 2015 In no particular order; Lead (mostly for my 45) Ibeji Montana Gold until I run out Plated
TonyS. 12 Posted March 21, 2015 +1000 for Alex @ Ibejiheads. Good guy, good product. raz-0 1,259 Posted March 24, 2015 I used to use precision delta FMJ, but have gone to no exposed lead. I have used precision bullets coated lead, berrys plated, rainier palted, the bulletworks.net plated, and xtreme plated. I've also used montana gold CMJ. All things considered I uses thebulletworks.net's plated or extrme plated. I'd used the berry's double struck plated too, but have no reasonably priced source for such. The coated IMO, jsut aren't worth it. I dunno how much ibejiheads discounts for not shipping, but freight included for them is $105 per k. FOr BBI coated it is 90 per k shipped. PRecision seems ot be offline, but they were around those prices. The bulletworks.net is $100 shipped for nice plated stuff. xtreme if you wait a week or so for their rotating 5% discount to be the caliber you want is about $104. I'll pay the $10-15 per K to avoid the TLC coated needs.
A-Tech 8 Posted March 24, 2015 I've used Rainiers, Berry's, Montana and Xtreme. All plated and I use all except Rainiers again. My constant is Xtreme because they are best bang for the buck for me. Montana would be my first choice if money was nothin' but a thang.
magnawing 5 Posted March 25, 2015 I use Black and Blue Bullets coated bullets. http://www.blackandbluebullets.com I just bought 1000 45 ACP 200gr RN and 500 9mm 115gr for $134 shipped to my door. As a bonus, they include about 20 bullets of a different weight as a "here, try these" thank you. I got 21 9mm 125gr RN and 20 .45 185gr SWC. This signature is AWESOME!!! MidwestPX 172 Posted March 25, 2015 I've loaded Montana Gold and Rainier plated. I'm going to try some coated bullets next as I'm burning up a ton of 9mm shooting 60-80 rounds a day and I need cheap projectiles.
carl_g 568 Posted March 25, 2015 I just got some berrys plated 380 100 gr RNFB on sale during the cabelas sale.. I haven't shot them yet but they look like they will be fine. I usually use the xtreme bullets.
