Chopping and pinning AKs in North Jersey?

Recommended Posts

Polak. Isnt basic threading and pinning what your looking for other than making the barrel shorter. Did they say at tier one they wouldnt shorten the barrel? Cause thats an easy task for them. Compared to the other micro fine stuff they do. Im thinking they might not of been clear on what you were asking for.

We won't chop it since it requires the barrel to be pressed off to be able to fit in our lathe. AR barrel and bolt gun barrels are different. We cut and thread them on our lathe. My suggestions is to contact rifle dynamics since they primarily deal with AKs, as we primarily deal with custom bolt guns and ARs. AKs require specific tooling which we have not bought ans/or made as of yet. The only service we're offering at the time for AKs is muzzle threads and pin/weld.

its quite easy to do it with the right tools while keeping the barrel attached to the trunnion. Remove your front sight.

1)hack barrel by any means

2)use piloted facing cutter

3)use piloted crown cutter (optional)

4)use piloted annular cutter to make sure the OD of your barrel is the correct size for your muzzle device.

5) thread muzzle with piloted threading tool and die with the correct pitch

6)slide front sight back on

7)put it where you want it

8)make a fixture or "eyeball" the front sight to make sure it's a TDC.

9)redrill your cross pin holes.

The most difficult part of the would be drilling yoir cross pin holes. Without a fixture or a way to hold your front sight at TDC it could shift while drilling. Create a fixture or temp tig it somewhere inconspicuous. I've also used red loctite in the past.
