Was shooting last week with my S&W M&P 22 handgun.  Ammo was Remington 22LR hollow points(from a "Bucket of Bullets" I purchased several months ago).  After approx 175 rounds downrange, when I pulled the trigger, it sort of went bang.  However, I also felt some of the products of combustion hit me in the face and smoke coming out of the rear of my slide.  Clearly something had gone wrong.  Retrieved the spent shell which is pictured below.  I immediately field stripped and inspected the gun. No apparent damage.  Shot about 30 rounds of a different brand afterwards with no issues.  Then called it a night.

Btw, good thing I was wearing my safety glasses over my prescription eyeglasses.

Any idea what may have caused this?  I assume bad ammo.  Or,  could it have been some sort of missfeed on the part of the gun?  Appreciate any feedback.

I've had the same thing happen to me a couple of times.  Both with my 10/22 which has successfully fired tens of thousands of rounds over 30 years.  You inspected the gun.  I would not sweat it.  If I was shooting .45's and had a blow out like this I might be more concerned.

In a word Remington. There are few who produce worse ammo then Remington.

I don't believe this one bit, it clearly states "NEW AND IMPROVED!" on the bucket.

OP did say they were several months old though...may have been the "OLDER AND WORSE" type.

That's what you get for trying to reload .22s!!! :nono:

Never had that happen to me yet but I have heard of it happening. It's not your gun, don't even know if it's bad ammo.

I think it's more like a few things going wrong at the exact same time. Could happen at anytime to anyone!

The same kit fits both the 9 and 40 frames so I can take it whichever you got it for.

Sold my GSG-5 22LR with fake suppressor. $300. These are a blast to shoot. Have two mags that have been converted to 10 rounds. Don't shoot it anymore and want to clear up some space on the safe. I live in Bergen county and will meet you in a dealer who you choose. You pay transfer so choose a cheap transfer dealer.

      Need help deciding here:
I'm torn between Ruger mark IV and SW22. Want to buy a universal gun for Bullseye and Steel Challenge, so it has to be bull barrel or similar.
I like stainless steel Ruger and million aftermarket parts available but I don't like grip angle (22/45 fits better but it's plastic) and the fact that barrel is the firearm. So every time I would think of a new barrel it will have to be a new set permits....
On the contrary SW22 has less aftermarket support and somewhat strange grip  - the angle is fine though. Plus its cheaper.
      Your opinions? pls?
      thanks in advance.
P.S. Buck Mark is out - don't even bring it up :). I own Buck Mark, i like the way it shoots but the takedown process can be painful. last time I wanted to clean it i stripped the hex screw and had to go to a gunsmith . Also, little aftermarket options and harder to find parts.

Finally had the chance to spend a good amount of time with the gun.  At this price point, there is no reason not to get one!

    • I have a like new (only zeroed) PSA Sabre KAC M110 Clone in 7.62x51mm. This is PSA's clone version of the infamous Knights Armament M110. Very high quality, excellent 2 stage trigger, 20" chrome lined barrel, adjustable gas block, and is NJ legal with a pinned Surefire SOCOM muzzle brake.  Radian Raptor charging handle and Radian ambi safety. Upper and lower are billet receivers compatible with all KAC SR-25 and LMT MWS/MARS-H pattern receivers.  Im no where close to being a long range shooter but ive been able to get 0.7 MOA out of it with 175gr federal gold medal match ammo and Im sure the rifle is capable of much better accuracy. Asking $1650 (which is a steal for what you get) at any FFL thats a reasonable distance from Jersey City. I can also ship but that would be on your dime.  Optic/bipod etc not included but can be purchased if interested. Vortex Razor Gen-II HD 3-18x50 FFP with the new EBR-7C MRAD illuminated reticle in a 1.54 reptilia mount. Id include the optic for another $1700. Happy to answer any questions or provide more pictures. Not interested in any trades. Thank you.
