a bolt gun for myself

Finally got around to building another bolt gun for myself.

 

Starting it off with a APO saber chassis.

 

The factory hand guard was a little plain, so we milled out a few slots in it.

Got the action trued and the barrel spun up.

 

Took the chassis a part and gave it a little od green cerakote. The barreled action along with the rails will be painted as well. I haven't decided on a color yet.

 

Here it is with all the parts mocked up. Hopefully I'll get to finish it within the next week or two.

That's a beauty, Mike! What caliber? Barrel length? What brake is that?

 

On another, more technical note, what does truing the action involve?

26 nosler, 26 inch, surefire brake. Truing is making sure that the face of the action is square to threads inside the reciever and making sure the lugs have full contact on the receiver abutments. This could mean cutting new receiver threads and/or cutting the face square to the threads, cutting and lapping the bolt lugs and abutments.

It's an older Surefire Socom brake.

I like the chassis, Mike.  It kinda looks like a cross between an AIAX and a McRee.

 

I love both, but they are definitely on the heavy side.

Yea I'm not lugging it around. I've got my 243 for that lol. This is a range toy and maybe some prone or bench macthes. The 243 is for those 3 day haul all your kit matches lol.

Cool range toy. I suppose the added weight is good for cutting down bipod hop and other recoil effects.

 

Im not familiar with the nuances of the 26 Nosler. Why that caliber?

no specific reason, I had a long action With a magnum bolt face to use. Plus 140 grain bergers at over 3200 fps ain't bad! Lol
