joy 2 Posted July 31, 2015 Does anyone know what the NJ laws are on BB guns, pellet guns and air rifles? Or how to find out?
T Bill 649 Posted July 31, 2015 Same as any other rifle, FID to purchase, no silencer on muzzle, transport laws the same as rifle. Under NJ law they are firearms.
Tunaman 548 Posted July 31, 2015 and BB/Pellet handguns are considered real handguns...permit to purchase necessary.
DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted July 31, 2015 Yes, treated exactly the same as firearms including magazine capacity restrictions and possession/transportation restrictions and exemptions. Unless they are full-auto bb guns used at carnivals and fairs - somehow those have an undocumented exemption from the law.
robot_hell 72 Posted July 31, 2015 Those full-auto BB guns were "tradition" long before that asinine law was written, I'm sure.
Old Glock guy 1,127 Posted July 31, 2015 To the OP: What have you done with JackDaWhack? And is he OK?
MartyZ 692 Posted July 31, 2015 Those full-auto BB guns were "tradition" long before that asinine law was written, I'm sure. Tradition doesn't warrant an exemption. And if there is an exemption then where is it written? It's the usual politics and greased palms.

On OPs question, I'm still trying to figure out the deal with old Crossman bb guns that held like 100 bbs in the 'magazine'. I'm wondering if those are evil assault weapons waiting to land you in jail like the evil Sears Catalog purchased Glenfield Model 60 with the 18 round tube mag. Umarex makes a CO2 BB rifle that shoots semi auto or 6 round bursts and has a 300 round reservoir. Cabelas sells it for $129. So... Seems to me this baby is a hard core assault rifle.... By NJ standards. So be careful what you buy.
robot_hell 72 Posted August 1, 2015 "Breaking news!: Local man arrested for possession of a fully automatic 4.4mm assault rifle. Authorities also found several 300-round clips loaded and ready for use. Story at 11."
joy 2 Posted August 2, 2015 Thank you everyone for your responses! I appreciate the info. A family member has a bb gun from 35 years ago and was asking questions. Thanks!
