How many different caliber firearms do you own

Recommended Posts

I currently have 3 rifles and 3 handguns.  The rifles are 22LR while the handguns are 22LR, 9mm and 40S&W.  I am thinking of getting a 5.56/.223 rifle next and possibly a 45ACP.  Do most people have multiple firearms in multiple calbers, or do you think it is better to stay within a single caliber for ease of ammo purchase or staying within a recoil level?  btw, my guns are:

Ruger 10/22 takedown

Ruger American 22LR

Savage Mark 2

S&W M&P22

S&W SD40VE w/spring upgrade

Tristar C100 w/grip upgrade

It depends on what you can afford and how deep your interest in shooting sports is.  If you love shooting you will try lots of guns, the more you try the more you will want to expand your collection.  If you can afford it, buy every gun that you enjoy shooting and shoot the crap out of them.  If you cant afford to buy everything you like, then just buy what you like the best and more importantly, what you shoot the best with.  I think most folks have two or three guns that they consider their primary SD firearms and all the others are just for play.

I agree that it all depends on what you want and what you can afford.  Im starting to realize I spread myself out a bit and it makes buying ammo a chore.  Im thinking about narrowing down to certain calibers to make it easier to restock as Vladtepes mentioned.

I sold a few guns of odd rounds a few years ago, I had too many different types of ammo. I "streamlined" down to the more common and available ammunition.

22

223/556

308

30-06

8mm Mauser

7.62x39

7.62x54R

9mm

40S&W

45ACP

38 spc

357 Mag

44 black powder

410

20ga

12ga

I have reached a point where I don't want any more calibers. When I look into a new gun I look for one that uses ammo I already have. No more 7.7 Jap for me.

Would have liked to have tired 5.45x39 but it never happened. I think that would have been a fun caliber but no current plans to buy a rifle to pursue it

29 handguns total in 22lr, .25acp, .38spl, .357mag, 9mm, .40s&w, .44spl, .44mag, .45acp.  For 22lr, 9mm, .40s&w and .45acp I have between 750 and 1000 rounds on hand each.  The others I keep a couple of boxes each.

I don't feel like listing what I stock because I'm way too lazy. However, I think most people start out buying firearms more based on their perceived use of the platform it's based on, and caliber second. For example, someone wants a small pocket sized handgun, but doesn't like double action, long heavy trigger pulls so his options are very limited. He might find a colt mustang to his liking chambered in .380... it might be enough gun. After you've been buying and shooting a while you might sell off ones you don't like, use, need or want anymore to consolidate calibers...or if you're like a lot of us, you'll just end up buying more than you can remember you have and one day realize you can't get parts or ammo to feed them all.

I still don't know why, but I want a .22 short auto loader, a few more 9mms and 45autos, and a S&W .500Mag which I definietely have no use for.  I'm pretty sure this could be defined as an addiction.
