stevenschaffer 2 Posted September 7, 2015 I have the option to purchase a Beretta gun at factory cost price. Now I'm looking to get a pistol and I'm not too familiar with what's good.. I was looking for a 9mm. Either the m9, m9A1, or the 92 .. I understand they are both similar guns so I'm not 100% sure what to get.. Looking for a good investment.. Gun will probably be lightly used for targets. Thx guys
diamondd817 823 Posted September 7, 2015 The 92FS, M9, and M9A1 are all the same gun with some aesthetic differences. All will serve you well. They are all durable and reliable. Any of them will outlast the shooter for sure. The 92FS and M9 are identical guns. The M9 is made in America and the 92FS is made in Italy. The 92's markings are just that, "92FS", "made in Italy", etc. The M9 markings are "M9", "US 9mm", "Made in USA", etc. The Italian made 92 is more sought after and said to be better made, have a better finish, etc. I've owned both and didn't see any difference. Unless of course, you can find an old NIB 92fs from the 90's, then you might see a difference in fit and finish. Anyway, of these 2, I prefer the M9, because of the "US 9mm" and "made in USA" markings. The M9A1 is an M9 with a rail and different grip checkering and I think it has a different shaped trigger guard. It is a Tacticool version of the M9. Great model if you want to mount lights, lasers, and party favors on the pistol. I still prefer the standard M9 over the M9A1 for its aesthetics. As far as investments go, your not going to make any money off these guns. They will most likely hold their value, but they will never be worth 2x what you paid for them. Resale on the Beretta are usually 80-90% of new pricing. If you want something that might be worth more than you paid later down the road, try to pick up one of those new 92 Inox Brigadiers, or 92 Inox Vertecs. They are very desirable. They stopped making both models years ago, but recently started making both again. Not sure for how long they will keep making them. I still see a bunch of them on GunBroker. Now for some Beretta porn to get you in the mood.......--

alec.mc 180 Posted September 7, 2015 Something to note, The M9A1 has a fixed, non - interchangeable front sight.
svt3183 14 Posted September 7, 2015 Have you shot one? Many people love them, but for some the grip size is an issue.
diamondd817 823 Posted September 7, 2015 Something to note, The M9A1 has a fixed, non - interchangeable front sight. Correct. The 92FS, M9, and M9A1 all have fixed non-replaceable front sights. The 92A1, 92 Brigadier, and 92 Vertec all have replaceable dove tailed front sights.
Howard 538 Posted September 7, 2015 This can't be Jersey legal. There MUST be some law against two guns in one case
Nucrunner 75 Posted September 7, 2015 Love that "Beretta Porn" posted by diamondd817! And just to add a few comments (I'm nothing more than a casual observer, so feel free to correct). For the original poster the M9 has a different sight set up than the 92fs, the M9 has "snowman"(?) sights while the 92 has the standard post and v we are used to seeing, also keep in mind (can't tell how much experience the original poster has) the Beretta 92 series are DA/SA action with a de-cocker. Barms 98 Posted September 8, 2015 Can you get a beretta shotgun at cost? Better "investment" if that's what your intention is.
stevenschaffer 2 Posted September 8, 2015 yeah factory cost price.. I was thinking a shotgun but I'm a big fan of handguns now .
Krdshrk 3,871 Posted September 8, 2015 I would definitely get a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon shotgun at factory price over one of their pistols... MUCH bigger savings.

It's an awesome piece that I wish I could afford. E savings on a 92 series will be modest. They sell for 650 at most all day long.
JackDaWack 2,894 Posted September 10, 2015 Personally I like the fullsize 92. I have both a px4 storm in fullsize and compact for sale locally because I just did not like them. They are not bad guns, but they are not the best either.I have the compact PX4, and while a great pistol the cost definitely leaves much to be desired. Trigger and slide are a little sloppy. Now the 92 has a very nice fit.
Krdshrk 3,871 Posted September 10, 2015 Strange - my Px4 (Fullsize) isn't sloppy at all...
tattooo 220 Posted September 10, 2015 My fullsize px4 storm is the furthest thing from sloppy ?
JackDaWack 2,894 Posted September 10, 2015 Mine is no where near as smooth operating as my 92. It's just an inherit property of having the metal guide rails embedded in a polymer frame. It shoots great and I will say that it is my bed side pistol.
PD2K 115 Posted September 11, 2015 OP I think diamondd817 pretty much hit the nail on the head...all three models are pretty similar. However I would do the M9A1 because of the rail. However if you can wait, I would love to test drive the M9A3. It's their submission to the US Army to replace the M9...looks sweet: http://www.beretta.com/en-us/m9a3/

It has that straighter Vertec (1911 style) grip angle. Just an FYI. The 92G-SD, now that's one that will be worth more $$$ down the road.
