HR 218 question for the LEO's

Recommended Posts

I have a question for the LEO's on the forum or anybody else who may know. My brother and I are both active duty LEO's and will be attending a swearing in ceremony at the U.S. Department of State, Washington D.C. in roughly 2 weeks weeks. I know we can't carry in the Dept. of State building but, what are the "rules" about carrying around DC (The mall, Arlington, various monuments)?

You can carry all over DC anywhere outside. The Mall and monuments are all okay. You can't carry in Federal buildings. If its run by the Park Service you cannot carry in a building where Park Service employees normally work. Arlington is run by the Army which makes it a military installation. Military installations use to let state and local leos carry on the installation. I don't know about now. If you are Federal you can carry anywhere including in the buildings. I know last time I was down at Air and Space and Ellis Island before I retired they checked my ID and asked me to sign in at the desk.

If you have any questions pm me.

I have spent a lot of time in Washington never had an issue, pre and post retirement. Most allow you to sign in and go about your business, areas that were restricted all had lock boxes to secure your weapon and you keep the key. All the museums allowed the sign in process. Take care and be safe.
