anutile 0 Posted October 7, 2015 Can a bore snake for a .223 be used to clean a .17hmr?
djg0770 481 Posted October 7, 2015 Not likely. Brush will probably be too fat for the bore.
tattooo 220 Posted October 7, 2015 Haven't tried but think it'll be too fat
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted October 7, 2015 They make .17 caliber bore snakes - use that. You don't even want to attempt a .22 in a .17 bore. If the cord breaks it is next to impossible to get the snake out of the barrel. Hasn't happened to me, but I've read some threads on other boards. Adios, Pizza Bob

I had one break on me in my Garand barrel (correct size). Not a fun experience.
bhunted 887 Posted October 7, 2015 Gotta lube them good with whatever you use. In my case, G96 in barrel and all over snake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

JackDaWack 2,895 Posted October 17, 2015 Nothing beats a rod and a brush. While i agree, the otis metal braided boresnakes work very good, and they have a .17 head attachment.
tattooo 220 Posted October 18, 2015 Yeah they are good for between cleans but I like a brush for a deeper clean
