Serious 0 Posted November 20, 2015 http://www.gizmag.com/gotenna-radio-network/33039/ Check it out this may replace the need for cb or ham radio. It basically turns your phone into a radio transmitter that communicates with others that have one
Sig226GuyNJ 128 Posted November 20, 2015 There are apps that allow you to text without service, and it's alot cheaper and in some cases, free.
Polak 3 Posted November 20, 2015 looks pretty cool if you go "off the grid" with no service around but the problem is, it seems you can only communicate between each other (both parties have to have the antenna)
raz-0 1,256 Posted November 20, 2015 There are apps that allow you to text without service, and it's alot cheaper and in some cases, free. They require the internet to be in place and fo you to be hooked up to wifi. These require you and the recipient to have the device, and to have phone paired via low power bluetooth to them. No infrastructure beyond that except perhaps a way to charge them.
jackandjill 683 Posted November 20, 2015 When it comes to these technologies, there really is no magic. For long term and real life scenarios, the good old CB/HAM wins.
Serious 0 Posted November 21, 2015 Yeah I thought it was a cool idea because not many people are going to buy a cb radio and all components to go along with it. But if enough of us buy this in NJ we can basically have an off grid network if somehow we lost satellite connection I have also read people are converting their old dish TV satellite dishes into antennas
