I really didn't want to get into this debate, but i'm not here to offer any opinions. Just a question, with what trijicon just put out is the negativity towards eotech due to their quality or because they lied? Also, are we now being told that all optics suffer from thermal drift?

All guns suffer from thermal drift, and that includes their optics. Ammo shoots slower or faster depending on temperature, barrels behave differently, optics contract and expand, so do iron sights and so on. However Trijicon says that total drift over the entire range of 220F is 1,1 MOA on the average. To me that sounds reasonable, compared with what was the eotech? 10+ moa over a 100 degree range?

I'm in the market for a red dot, Eotech is now out of the running, which others should I consider? My needs are able to withstand a wide range of temp change (below zero - over 100), long battery life or no battery needed, small dot, able to withstand the outside environment and being heavily used/dropped/etc... without losing zero

I went this route and haven't looked back. PSA was running a deal on the Vortex Strikerfire (first gen) and I picked up two.  I have them on various rifles, never an issue and they work without fail when I play operator operating operationally. Most recent abuse of the guns had the red dot only looking like this:

 

 

Now that I have the money, I might upgrade to an aimpoint if the vortex dies but so far it's been running strong.

How does the Mepro 21 stand up against the Aimpoint?

 

FWIW, I'm leaning towards the Mepro21 and cant decide on triangle or 4.3 dot

They are 2 different beasts. IMO I'd go with an h-1 for the price. If you like the reflex idea vs batteries I would have to defer to someone who knows trijicon a bit better to know the difference

Ok, I get the lying part, I was just fuzzy on the thermal drift part. So eotech's thermal drift, although apparently expected, is much worse than other quality optics. Got it, thanks.

Thanks.  I saw that and saw another place selling them for $399 - but that is today.  I figure they probably went for a good bit more than that in 2005 when they were new.  Since they will give you what you claim you paid or msrp that is what I am trying to determine.

 

 

Edit ---  Found on AR15.com a person who submitted $480 for two of them and was approved on both of them for that amount.

I emailed them and i received a response about a week after UPS dropped it off. Then i called about a month later and they said it was approved and i was in line for a check. They aren't issuing refunds all at once, im guessing they allocated a certain amount of money every week.

Check came today...... Turn around was about 4-5 weeks. Now I can pay off the aim point PRO. Props to them for handling this the way they did.( the refunds not the cause for them.)
