probation question

Recommended Posts

a friend of mine recently got probation for offending a minor that was in the room with an adult conversation going on. he is a firearms owner and his lawyer said a third degree probation shouldn't effect his owning guns in any way. he needs to change his address on his card. would there be any complications? i don't want to dis his lawyer but a second opinion couldn't hurt. otherwise i need to get some cash up to buy some of his collection.

Your friend already has hired an attorney.

Your post is "vague" in regards to the actual offense, so anyone who gives an opinion is doing so w/o all of the facts.

Asking for a second opinion from another lawyer (one who specializes in firearms law) is a good thing.  Asking HERE is laughable at best.

You said he got "third degree probation". Did you mean probation for a third degree offense?

Because if so, he's a convicted felon and his gun owning days are over.

Even if he's on probation for an disorderly persons offense (or even PTI), he doesn't lose his 2A rights, but he he can't have guns at home while serving the probationary term.
