When I was a kid, I'd knock on doors and offer to pull up Dandelions by hand with a little weed puller tool.  I got a penny per plant.  Lots of work for a few bucks an hour.

I did the same thing but I mowed lawns, raked leaves, and shoveled snow when I was 11. I saved every penny I made. When I turned 12 and got my hunting licenses I gave the cash I had saved to my dad who bought my first shotgun for me. I know I know straw purchase but things were different back then and when I turned 18 we filled out a COE and I took possession of it. It taught me a valuable lesson, hard work will pay off in the end.

The only flowers the deer don't eat at my house are dandelions. I have enough yard work to do with 3 acres and a small orchard so I leave the dandelions be and I sure as hell don't fertilize the grass, then it will grow to fast. If astroturf looked more natural I'd consider it lol. Next house will have lots of woods and a very small yard

Get your spring fertilizer and per-emergent crabgrass control down asap.  The best time to put crabgrass control down is just before Forsythia bloom.  I also highly recommend lime.  It's cheap and it helps your lawn not have to work as hard to pull what it needs from the soil.

Lime is cheap . Very cheap.

 

I do have a ph tester for soil I purchased a few years ago. Soil by me is very acidic. Alluvial .
