WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot 358 Posted December 31, 2015 FYI, there's a group buy going on over at FAL Files Forum for $475 IMBEL Receivers. Could make for a nice 2016 project. Unlike the infamous Bugsy Eotech group buy, I've done my research this time and it is legit. http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394148

I could have my arm twisted....
WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot 358 Posted December 31, 2015 I'm not an expert, but my back of envelope is: IMBEL Receiver - $475 plus $20 ship + FFL transfer/NICS Parts Kit - $300-$700 or much more. Sarco has $300 jungle-rusted Cuban parts kits if you want a real DIY refinishing project or you can go high-end Aussie or Austrian parts kit if you can hunt one down at Oaks 7 US parts - $? - for US 922r compliance Gunsmithing - $350+ if you want to send it to a place like Arizona Response Systems to assemble/refinish. Can also do yourself if you have the tooling (like the kid below). Plus other costs like shipping, mags, etc. that I always underestimate. I wouldn't mind a Rhodesian patterned Right Arm of the Free World... lol
WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot 358 Posted December 31, 2015 From the banned list of NJ weapons - : FN-FAL, FN-LAR, or FN-FNC type semi-automatic firearms : If the Receiver has anything resembling this........ I *personally* would avoid it like the plague, those silly letters FAL........ sound familiar with the AR pattern rifles? Good point. I will definitely double check the stampings. I have definitely seen NJ legal IMBEL built FALS at the range without the word FAL so it would depend on the importer stamps and markings:
junkmanted 54 Posted December 31, 2015 why not get a Coonan receiver and save some money ? And this isn't a EZ build !
RUTGERS95 890 Posted January 1, 2016 isn't 922 only if you are a manufacturer intended for sale?

JohnnyB 4,321 Posted January 1, 2016 isn't 922 only if you are a manufacturer intended for sale? If you buy a Saiga rifle and convert it to AK47 style, you Must follow 922 guidelines with the parts used being U.S. made to be in compliance with the law. Even if you are not a manufacturer and never intend to sell. I would think this would also apply to the FAL.
