TokenEntry 293 Posted January 2, 2016 The DDI 74S Magpul Edition from Classic Firearms. The rifle shoots a 5.45x39 centerfire cartridge. (No magazine included from Classic Arms.) Here's a pic of the rifle from both sides. Rifle disassembled with the exception of the FCG and safety selector. These are the only parts that have serial numbers that I could find which are on the top cover, bolt carrier, bolt, and extractor. No serial number on the front or rear trunnion, gas tube, underneath the rear sight leaf, back of the safety selector, or the recoil spring assembly. As you can see DDI did an outstanding job of installing the rivets on the rifle. The rivets on the front of the receiver. The rivets at the rear of the receiver. The rivets on the front of the trigger guard and at the rear under the pistol grip. The safety selector w/installed ALG AKT trigger. (Originally had the TAPCO G2 single hook trigger.) Scope rail. US manufactured by DDI, an exact copy of the Bulgarian pattern AK-74 scope rail. Rear sight leaf. Mfg. rollmark and model designation. Part of the safety selector is shaved at the bottom on the left to prevent the hammer from being tripped during disassembly. Side, top, and inside view of the ribbed top cover. Half moon version AK74 compensator. Bullet guide w/feed ramps. Demilled bolt carrier. Vertical gas block. Magpul lower handguard. Trimmed at the top to accommodate the handguard retainer plate. I've yet to shoot the rifle as I'm trying to source magazines and ammo for it still. One thing I have noticed is that when pulling the charging handle back it will hang midway if you let it go forward slowly. This was present before and after changing the FCG to the ALG AKT trigger. Future upgrades for the rifle will include the following . . . *Getting rid of the Magpul furniture. Will replace it with either wood or the polymer plum furniture. *RS Regulate mount - AK-301 with a Micro Aimpoint or a Russian Kobra red dot
Alex V 99 Posted January 2, 2016 Looks awesome. You came in to pick this up when I was getting my 47S. I just field stripped/cleaned it and installed a Krebs safety. Didn't dissasemble it as far as you did ;-) it's my first. Still an AK noob.

One thing I have noticed is that when pulling the charging handle back it will hang midway if you let it go forward slowly. This was present before and after changing the FCG to the ALG AKT trigger. the carrier will hang up slightly on the top of the hammer as it rides forward and back. both tapco G2 and ALG hammers will cause this and is perfectly normal. If you want to smooth out the action, you can use a dremel to round out the hammer. entirely not necessary, but it does make a difference if it's something you want to do. rounded out -- be sure not to take away a lot of material. it's only to smooth out the 2 humps stock - showing contact points
RecessedFilter 222 Posted January 3, 2016 Too many pics and not enough shooting! Smoothing out the hammer very lightly works well for the BC hang up. Takes two seconds too.
svt3183 14 Posted January 3, 2016 After wearing in the hammer hang up may go away
TokenEntry 293 Posted January 3, 2016 Thanks for the suggestion on the hammer polishing. However, I've decided to use Flitz Metal Polish on the contact points for the hammer, bolt carrier, and bolt. No hang up when riding the bolt carrier forward, but there is still so some resistance when it contacts the top of the hammer.
carl_g 568 Posted January 3, 2016 you shouldn't ride the bolt carrier anyway.. Just yank it back and let it fly.
fatty 241 Posted January 3, 2016 I wouldn't worry about it just shoot the crap out of it and enjoy
svt3183 14 Posted January 4, 2016 Agree it's nothing to worry about and very common
TokenEntry 293 Posted January 4, 2016 I've heard that many times. I know the contact on the parts will wear itself in over time. Strange that many youtube videos I've watched where people say there is no hang up with their DDI AK bolt carrier. I have a milled MAK90 that is unfired that has no hang up issues with the bolt carrier. As soon as I source some reliable mags and get more ammo, I'll update with a range report for everyone. TokenEntry 293 Posted January 4, 2016 Unfired MAK90? Cash and trade for unfired WASR? Sorry, spent a lot of cash to convert it to pistol grip configuration. Most likely will bring it on my next outing to the range along with the DDI AK74.
TokenEntry 293 Posted January 4, 2016 Here's pic of her with Ironwood Designs furniture. Combloc Customs was the one that did the finishing job on it. I wish I could shorten the buttstock a bit, looks out of place.
