Beowulf Question

Recommended Posts

Ive been having trouble with my 50 cal Beowulf upper and Im looking for some advice.

The scenario: My gun hasn't been grouping well at all... 6" groups at 50 yards. Im shooting from the bench rest with a Leupold optic. I checked the scope mounts and even replaced the mounts and scope to make sure thats not the problem. The gun does seem slightly under gassed... brass is ejecting between 4 and 5 o'clock and sometime doesnt chamber the next round or lock back on an empty mag. On a freshly cleaned barrel I see slightly better accuracy but a different point of impact... within 10 rounds, my accuracy is shit again. Im shooting factory Alexander Arms ammo and have about 100 rounds through the gun. The crown seems ok and the bore is shiny and blemish free (from the naked eye). I know the gun is capable of better groups than what I'm seeing so my question is simple: Any idea why its so inaccurate?

Did you buy the upper complete or assemble it yourself?

If bought, I would contact the company and see if it is under warranty before you WECSOG it and void their terms.

If you assembled it, check the barrel nut and make sure it is tight and torqued properly.

Did you chrono the ammo? Could be inconsistant loads.

Was it just today (beautiful day to be at the range) or has this been happening for a while?

Bought it complete... this one

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/316928/alexander-arms-ar-15-entry-a3-upper-receiver-assembly-50-beowulf-165-barrel

I bought it about a year and a half ago so any warranty is probably past but Ill send them an email and see what they say.

Its been going on for months.  I dont shoot it often because of the cost of ammo but every time Ive had it on the range since last august it hasn't grouped properly (but since then its only made 5 trips to the range with me).  I thought about inconsistent loads too... but Im not convinced of it because it has been multiple boxes.  I may run the rounds through the chrono but may just reload some and see if I have the same problem.  Thanks for input.

It's going to cost you to repair either way. If it is not something simple - like a loose barrel nut - and you are thinking about swapping out parts I would contact them and send it back. They probably know exactly what the issue is.

Their warranty sounds good, and I have not heard anything bad about them.

6" at 50 yards is pretty bad. These large bore AR15s aren't great as far as accuracy goes but you should be around 2" at 100 yards even with ballistically poor projectiles. The only thing I can think of that's throwing your rounds off that badly is a bad barrel. Or at a minimum, a barrel that isn't suited for the ammo you're putting through it.

I'm guessing a bad barrel because the variety of ammo for a beowulf is pretty small thus it probably doesn't have mismatched ammo.

OP, call AA, I've found them very reasonable to deal with in the past.

Alexander arms upper and Alexander arms ammo... so its definitely suited for it lol.

HE, thanks for the link.  And thanks for the input guys... Im going to contact AA and see what they say about it.  I bought this as a bear/hog gun and as things are, Im just going to stick with my 45-70.  I have no confidence in the gun right now.

Savior Equipment American Classic Tactical Double Long Rifle. 36” Model. I bought this from Amazon along with the single rifle case to decide which I liked better. I don’t feel like going through the hassle of returning as it was bought through a third party seller so I figured I’d knock 43ish%  off the price ($70.36 incl tax) and pass it along to someone here that could use it. As new condition minus the tags. $40 cash and pick up in Freehold.

    • I've watched a lot of "Mighty Ships" series on TV, as well as cruise ship series. It seems prevalent for large ships to have GPS tracking, and possibly guidance. So the path of this ship should be on record somewhere. And one critical fact would be whether or not as the ship approached the bridge it followed the correct path in the harbor channel. The conspiracy aspect would ask was  one of the electronic guidance/navigation systems hacked to put it on a collision course? I'm not anxious to find a terrorist attack. But if you'd asked me on September 10, 2001 what were the odds of four hijacked aircraft being successfully flown by amateurs into three iconic American structures... I will say there's not a doubt in my mind there are nasty people that crossed the border to cause trouble. I just can't be certain how, and how much.
    • It's been reported now that there were two harbor pilots on board and 21 crewmen. The article mentions that there were no cars on the bridge when it collapsed.   Actually, divers found two people trapped in their car.  They were recovered Tuesday afternoon.
