njpilot 671 Posted June 15, 2016 PB, I think they switched to the 229 Elite in mid 2014. Just curious Rick. In post #45 you said the guns are about 8 years old. Did they buy used guns two years ago?
High Exposure 5,635 Posted June 15, 2016 No used guns. Just me not explaining well. NBPD bought a enough Sigs to outfit their active members about 8 or so years ago - ditching their S&W 4006s. They continue to buy new guns as their Dept grows, and guns are retired. NJSP switched to 229s in '14. Prior to that they had 228s (I think). The Sigs tested by the NJSP (228 and 229) are anywhere from 8ish years old (228) to newer (229). I don't know how many of each was tested or what the ratio was failure wise between them. Just that NJSP Sigs are failing at an alarming rate.
njpilot 671 Posted June 15, 2016 Thanks for the explanation. Is pretty scared and messed up that there is such a high failure rate. I remember when I bought my 220 Stainless Elite a few years ago, that there was a long wait due to problems with US manufactured frames, and I think they were waiting on frames from Germany, if I remember correctly.
