jrfly3006 42 Posted April 22, 2016 I have a reoccurring carpenter bee issue that I need to fix ASAP..they're apparently getting in under the fascia board on the side of my house and getting in the attic..any DIY suggestions on elimination?. .they've made a few holes in a 2x4 in the attic but looks localized...is it common for them to fly around in an attic? Purple Patrick 638 Posted April 22, 2016 Put up fine metal mesh wherever they are coming in. An airsoft gun works great for elimination Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
PK90 3,569 Posted April 22, 2016 In the early morning, spray Tri-Die in the holes, they will be gone the next day. http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/tridie-oz-p-249.html I lived in a log home in NJ. The bees got to a few hundred. Then I used this and got down to a few the next day. Sent from an undisclosed location via Tapatalk.

fishnut 2,358 Posted April 22, 2016 Apicide Dust- recommended to me by a guy who salvages old barns. The stuff works wonders.
Bighungry618 448 Posted April 22, 2016 I use a tennis raquet Cheater....the wife and I use an old grill spatula...she's currently in the lead with 12 confirmed kills.
bhunted 887 Posted April 22, 2016 A few kept tunneling into my back decks. I gave them a proper tomb for their efforts in making such a neat pile of saw dust and perfect round hole. I waited till the bugger was in the hole then injected silicon. It is now part of its own art work. A fossil for future explorers. Lambo2936 297 Posted April 22, 2016 Some Spray foam and for good measure the can of poisonous crap might help. Haha
Schrödinger's cat 87 Posted April 22, 2016 An airsoft gun works great for elimination I really want to get one of these for my wife but I don't want to pony up the money right now. http://www.amazon.com/BUG-A-SALT-2-0-FLY-GUN-MANUFACTURER/dp/B00STSZ77G
bhunted 887 Posted April 22, 2016 Looks like fun but do you really want salt laying all over your house, getting in your electronics, etc.? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
maintenanceguy 508 Posted April 22, 2016 Carpenter bee traps work. It's a 6" x 6" x 6" wooden box with a mason jar threaded into the bottom. The top of the box overhangs the sides by about an inch to make sort of a roof. A 3/8" hole is drilled in each of the 4 sides. Carpenter bees can't resist going into the holes and they fall into the mason jar where they can't get out. I've filled a mason jar in a few days. jrfly3006 42 Posted April 23, 2016 Thanks for the suggestions..gonna try the chemical route behind the fascia board where they're crawling in...if that don't work then I'll try the trap..just don't want the buggers boring into ceiling joists Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
revenger 472 Posted April 23, 2016 I use a product called Boracare, I lived in a log cabin and always treated it with that. also do a search on youtube for carpenter bee traps and build a few of them, I built one that has a plastic bottle at the bottom and quite a few of the bees get in and cant get out,
S14Swap240sx 6 Posted April 25, 2016 I just tossed my trap I made from last year. Didn't do anything for me. I had someone come and dust away. The dust needs to get pumped into the channels they make.. I used pvc pipe and ak trigger parts to extend my aresol can up the side of my house.. Didn't work.. I taped a sandal to the pvc pipe and that got a couple of them.. Spent like 200 on having someone come dust and fill holes and they are all gone.. None yet this year either. EWC88 24 Posted April 25, 2016 Will be trying this chemical route stuff as well, they love my deck and I can't stand it! I've used baseball bats but I'm still losing...
345Sire 158 Posted April 25, 2016 Try low load shotgun shells. They are as big as the bees, so they are a good target for them, and the low loads wont blow the boards apart. Just kidding, really, even these would ruin your wife's day.
mipafox 438 Posted April 26, 2016 Hydrogen cyanide. Just don't make any sparks, it does have a (limited) flammability range. And you'll need to wear an acid gas respirator and get the family out of the house because it will kill everyone. It also penetrates APR respirators unusually quickly, so use SCBA/SCUBA gear if you don't think you can get out fast.
Handyman 5,682 Posted April 28, 2016 Pack the hole with C4 and spark it off. Go big or go home!

gfl216 218 Posted May 1, 2016 I had them in my deck a few years back. I sprayed the holes they with wasp spray and filled them with wood putty and have never seen them since.
