Lambo2936 297 Posted May 26, 2016 Found an M1a up for sale/trade thats as new as my sig m400 is to trade them. Cant wait to pick the thing up, assuming its good to go. Meeting the guy later tonight. Anyhow, im looking for some ideas. Id like to put a scope mount on it and a scope, most likely, to make it a tacticool scout sniper type dealio, and will probably get rid of my savage 111 if i do pick this up. Does springfield make a mount? Good idea or bad idea? Its the m1a standard in OD green composite stock. Not exactly sure where i want to go with this setup. GRIZ 3,369 Posted May 26, 2016 You may want to hold on to the Savage. It may shoot better than a standard M1A.
Lambo2936 297 Posted May 27, 2016 Just picked it up. Guess well find out, haha. Have to look into a scope mount and what not for it, now.
fatty 241 Posted May 27, 2016 post some pics! always wanted an M1A scout
GramGun79 226 Posted May 27, 2016 Don't get rid of your guns. Just keep adding to the collection. More the better!
Lambo2936 297 Posted May 27, 2016 Here are a few pics. Its an M1A std but i indend on making it a scout, have to keep an eye out for new bodies. Things basically new, was just sighted in. Got 6 mags w it too, though they are the cheapo korean ones. For a trade w a sig m400 with 1 mag i cant complain, it was a good trade. Traded 223 for 308 too so i dont have to buy ammo either lol
Golf battery 1,223 Posted May 28, 2016 Whats the length on the barrel. Iknow my socom sucks to shoot for recoil.
Lambo2936 297 Posted May 28, 2016 Its an m1a standard. 22" iirc. Has a fairly high end brake on it, too. Hope its not bad. I shoot my 3006 fine but its a bolt action, not semi auto haha. Ill be shooting this like a single shot/bolt gun, probably.
axeman_g 128 Posted May 31, 2016 Whats the length on the barrel. Iknow my socom sucks to shoot for recoil. Golf Battery... I will take that problem rifle off your hands!!!!
axeman_g 128 Posted May 31, 2016 Lambo... Its not a scout.. dont try to make it one. If you wanted a Scout you should have waited on a Scout Model from SA. The standards are good to go for the Irons (BEST IN THE WORLD by the way) and adding a scope mount (Basset, ARMS, Springfield) with a good scope and cheek rest (mandatory). Go to m14forums.com Read and learn. there is a ton of information there.
Golf battery 1,223 Posted June 7, 2016 I was looking into selling it. But i guess ill just hoard. I do have a brand new archangel stock for am m1a for sale.
Lambo2936 297 Posted June 9, 2016 Axeman, i just messed up the wording. I basically just want a tacticool stock and scope mount on it. Not the original SA scout stock but one of the many 'aftermarket' ones available that look more like the ones found on Modern rifles. Id like an adjustable stock to help me get comfortable as well as a bipod on the front end. Another very helpful member pointed out that the scout setups on these place the sight WAY up there so ive been keeping an eye out for the other kind... forgot the name again, but its the one that mounts it above i guess its the ejection port thingiemajigie. I think you get the idea. Not the type of rail that comes from the SA factory, and i wont have like 2' of eye relief haha.
axeman_g 128 Posted June 9, 2016 Lambo... got it. Contact Golf battery about his ArchAngel Stock. Try it, see if you like it for the advantages it gives you versus the lower investment. All the other stocks for M1a, to use my buddy TacticalMonkey's favorite saying, seem to be made of made from unobtanium! The archangel gives you cheek rise, LOP adjustability, sling and bipod attachments points. Personally, I have found the replacement stocks to be bulky, weight adding and less ergonomic than the standard birch / plastic stocks. The only one I would acquire is the Sage EBR with slider ... verboten in NJ... and make it a DMR. I cant help drooling over them though. I have come to think of the M1a models as the modern equivalent of bolt action battle rifles of the early 20th century. They excel at durability, power, shooting and accuracy. Same as the 1903a, K98 etc etc. Making one a tactical door kicking tool is not ideal. Making one a long range marsmanship rifle... easy and rewarding. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/03/jim-barrett/modifying-the-classic-m14m1a/
Lambo2936 297 Posted June 10, 2016 My range only goes out to 200 yards, which is where i'll be shooting it, so unfortunately 'long range' is basically out of the question, but anyhow, the idea behind the stock like the archngel was because of my being a fairly small guy, and the M1A being way too long for me to get a proper grip on. With something like the Archangel i can throw a bipod on it and the design allows me to get a better hold on the rifle. Then, all i need is a scope mount and sight on the thing and i am good to go.Fixed stocks SUCK for those of us under the Average height. Lambo2936 297 Posted June 18, 2016 Bought an archangel stock for the m1a... what a waste, ridiculously heavy and fitment is horrible. After spending 2 hours shaving plastic off as per instrucions, the trigger guard still wont lock in place. It clamps on, but doesnt click in so a slight pull takes apart the whole gun... may be returning it to the ebay seller, i am really disappointed in this crap. Golf battery 1,223 Posted June 18, 2016 Come get mine. I betcha it fits like a glove. Pm me again if you want to try it out first
Lambo2936 297 Posted June 20, 2016 I got it to fit. I said screw it i'll try one last time, and as i went to show my wife what a POS the thing was, it locked into place... hahaha. Go figure. Its nice, just a bit heavy. With a scope and all itll be WAY heavier than before, which was already heavy. Nice gun to shoot off a bench, but i certainly wont be shoulder firing the thing. Ill stick to my ar or mp1522 for that, haha.
axeman_g 128 Posted June 21, 2016 Thought that might happen. I was shocked when I picked up a Archangel on a Loaded model at the Oaks Gun Show. Just sort of unwieldy... I see it's use, it would take some time to get used to. Use the original stock and the irons... you will be amazed at how satisfying iron sight shooting is at a distance. Lambo2936 297 Posted June 22, 2016 I suck with irons.. still got a ways to go. I like the archangel for shooting off a bench, seems like thats all itd be good for, though. Way too bulky and heavy for any on the go shooting, haha.
shufly 34 Posted July 9, 2016 Golf battery are u still interested in selling the archangel stock?
Lambo2936 297 Posted July 9, 2016 I may end up selling mine, lol. As tacticool as it is i think i may end up just leaving the original stock on it and putting a scope mount on it with no bipod.
