Grand Marquis front strut replacement

Recommended Posts

Dear NJGF mechanics and crown vic owners,

I'm replacing the front struts on my 06 grand marquis. Can this be done without removing the brake parts?

The shop manual and YouTube videos all show the brake caliper bracket, caliper, and rotor being removed to make room. I saw some videos for vehicles with similar suspension setups, like the 04 F150, in which the brake parts were not removed and there was still enough room to work.

Sincerely,

Catch22LR

I've never done struts on a Grand Marquis.   I will say that it's possible on larger cars to do it without removing the calipers and rotors but sometimes it's really hard to get to the bolts without the perfect combination of sockets and extensions.  Also, you may need to get an impact wrench on it and if that's the case, you're more likely to need to remove it.   I would yank the tire...if you can get to the bolts, don't bother taking off the brakes.
