Inplainsight 6 Posted July 31, 2016 Hi All, I'm working on my first AR build and had a few questions about Muzzle Devices. 1. If I purchase a threaded barrel & a threaded muzzle device then can I still have them shipped to my house in NJ and then take to the gunsmith to get pinned? or should I err on the side of caution have them both shipped to the gunsmith? 2. Is there a list of muzzle devices considered acceptable? I was interested in the VG6 Precision EPSILON 556, but their description "High Performance Muzzle Brake Flash Suppressing Type" leads me to believe this might be considered illegal in NJ. Would the Gamma 556 be considered legal in NJ (if pinned to the barrel) 3. Can you recommend a few other NJ legal muzzle brakes/compensator that I could look and compare that? Thanks in advance for your input.

louu 399 Posted August 1, 2016 1. Yes you can ship all of them to your house. 2. Don't mess with anything that says flash suppressor. 3. What MJ said.
T Bill 649 Posted August 1, 2016 Gamma 556 looks OK. The other not so much
My1stGlock 144 Posted August 1, 2016 The Gamma 556 is fine I have one on one of mine. Take a look at the Yankee Hill Phantom 5M1 http://www.midwayusa.com/product/124926/yankee-hill-machine-muzzle-brake-phantom-5m1-aggressive-1-2-28-thread-ar-15-parkerized Or just search Midway's site. Lots of nice pics to look at. http://www.midwayusa.com/s?userSearchQuery=muzzle+brake&uac=true

Krdshrk 3,877 Posted August 1, 2016 What's your budget, and what are you looking to accomplish? There are cheaper brakes that get very concussive (YHM Phantom 5M1/5M2 - usually $30 or less), some that get very blasty (JP Cooley, DPMS Miculek) but do a LOT for muzzle rise.. Some people like the looks of smaller holes (Spikes Dynacomp - also less concussive than most)... Some people like giant cookie cutters (Strike Industries Cookie Cutter Comp)... It all comes down to what you're looking for.
Heavyopp 167 Posted August 1, 2016 DPMS Miculek /end thread Maybe its me but I really don't like that locking nut thing -- why not a crush washer and flats on the brake to tighten The locking nut flats not being vertical and the space between barrel and locking nut would drive me crazy too I just put a lantac dragon on my most recent build -- Liked it so much that I already bought one for my next build because of a sale price at primary arms -- $89

For thirty bucks and working just as good as a hundred dollar brake I really couldn't ever see myself using anything else. That's seventy bucks worth of ammo... Inplainsight 6 Posted August 1, 2016 Thanks Everyone for your insightful responses. I'm going to look at all the options provided here and do some research on these. There was a question regarding my budget and what I aim to accomplish with this device. I'm hoping to stay under $50, but can spend up to $100 on this. I'm looking for something that reduces recoil. Aesthetics are important, but not as important as utility. The Lantac Dragon's video looks pretty impressive. Does anyone have an opinion about the M4-72 Severe-Duty™ Compensator (http://precisionarmament.com/product/m4-72-tactical-compensator/). Thanks again for all your suggestions! ronhonda 86 Posted August 1, 2016 FWIW, many comps out there but the general consensus is the Miculek comp works at a fraction of the cost of many others. If you are concerned about noise and other shooters try something else. If you want to keep muzzle down and sights on target go Miculek. Pat Kelly, renowned 3gun shooter has stated time and time again to go with a Miculek. Full disclosure, I have a JP Cooley on my AR.

I get what your saying Lou but you can clock just as easily with the standard crush washer -- Just seems silly to me to do it that way I do like the price --
remixer 1,645 Posted August 3, 2016 Lantec dragon is a nice brake.. the Gamma VG6 also.. Note: If you are going to install yourself.. Prepare to Cuss a lot when drilling the Lantec... that shits made of Diamond or something lol
Inplainsight 6 Posted August 3, 2016 Right now I'm considering M4-72 Severe-Duty, Lantec Dragon and Gamma VG6... Wish I could buy all three for three different builds...
Contrvlr 17 Posted August 4, 2016 Getting the Gamma at a lower cost interest you ? http://www.schuylerarmsco.com/product.vg6-gamma-556-92-993 If using a 14.5" bbl the EX will bring you to legal length , is pre drilled and the same price http://www.schuylerarmsco.com/product.vg6-gamma-556-ex-94-993
Inplainsight 6 Posted August 4, 2016 WOW! That's a great price. I'm going to order one. Even though the regular Gamma is not predrilled, it can still be pinned by a gunsmith? Correct?
