Dazed and Confused by 2018?

Recommended Posts

Legalize Marijuana and tax the shit out of it, Earmark the money to fund education, the transportation fund, and pensions. Property taxes could actually go down for a change. While they're at it legalize prostitution in Atlantic City. It may be the only thing that can save that shit hole and have it start generating revenue again.

You do realize the implications of legalizing pot right?  The tax revenue gave Colorado $66 Million in additional tax revenue... Colorado's population is about 2/3 of NJ's, and they're a lot more spread out...  The sheer amount of money that could be brought in makes it a no brainer.

You do realize that if the state legalizes it, it is still illegal federally? This means that you would have to answer yes to question 11e on the federal 4473, which would then preclude you from buying firearms. A big Catch 22.

Just food for thought.

I say legalize and tax it.

I don't have a dog in this hunt though.  I smoked pot a handful of times, all of it before 1990 when I graduated from College.   I recall it making me paranoid and I'm already paranoid enough these days ;)

Knowing NJ, those "legalization laws" will look something like :

1. All pot is illegal, as a punishment, we will take your 2A rights, you will be hung at the town center

2. You cannot buy seed, grow, water or even look at any pot plants in your own backyard, even for your own consumption

3. Exceptions, blah blah blah shall not apply to

2.1 Political hacks and their henchmen

2.2 If you promise to offer your first born

2.3 You must continue to buy from state sanctioned facilities

A year later, your taxes are going up again, with note that they need to fund these "health care centers" that supply pot to needy and under privileged.

Then there going to be sh*t load of traffic laws to lock you up and deny your rights... over some arbitrary limits etc...

Any other State, I would have said yes, but NJ, no thank you.

Why?  If it's legal, then you should be a lawful user, and it's not addictive.

  1. Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?

You may be legal in the NJ pasture, but you are still illegal on the Federal Farm.

Doesn't matter to me; I won't be using it in any case. But I would like to hear from someone with CO experience in MJ and firearms.

I hear ya, but I also don't acknowledge the federals "authority" over cannabis as it is not an enumerated power in the constitution.

There are a lot of people breaking the law by lying on the 4473. Banks are not even allowed to take the money from "legal" marijuana businesses - how do you think the feds feel about firearms? We're lucky that the BATFE doesn't have the resources to put lots of boots on the ground.

Here's an article about banking and marijuana in Colorado...

Let's get real.  State budget next year is 34.5 Billion with a B dollars.  Go wild say we can collect 100 Million in taxes.  How far ya think that will go.  Do the math.  Of course then we will have to have state programs for admin, policing, etc.  My net take on this, we will be paying for people who partake. No thank you.  It's just about power politics that is all.   Just like casinos as more states participate the revenue goes down.

Let's say you have your daughter's boyfriend with you on a family outing to the range.  You get pulled over, cop says he smells pot, kid drops the bag on the floor of the car where it is found and you all get popped.  Kiss you FID good bye, what ever we have left of it in 2018

if people want to smoke pot let them smoke pot.

just like if we want our guns let us have our guns

i hear from people i know in colorado, and i dont have cite able sources, that colorado is having problems with an influx of hippies and vagrants since the legalization, so there is that.

i still beleive weed is far less dangerous then most legal drugs, ie alcohol, perscription narcotics, etc....

and as far as sweeny is concerned i dont care what he does that i actually agree with, i still want him hanging from the gallows

NYC has decriminalized it and everyone is smoking pot everywhere when I'm out walking around.  It's tough to bank for the dispensaries because of federal law.

* And *

If you think for one second it will do anything to reduce property taxes, gas tax any other tax - you need to load a bowl and torch up now - its NOT going to happen......

They *will* see it as they just now have more money to spend -

I personally am against it -

just to add to what you said if the state of NJ gave it their blessing that doesn't mean an employer has too... IIRC I remember seeing something the news where some potheads in CO thought they had the all clear to fire-up but some employer's pushed back citing their drug policy. So yea, you might be able to roll your own but it doesn't mean you'll pass a employer piss test. Also I don't think you will see any CDL holders stocking up on bongs & rolling papers either unless they want give up driving....

On a personal note I don't care what other people do as long as it has no impact on me or my family.

paying for people to partake? You mean just like alcohol and tobacco. Pot is less detrimental to society and alcohol or tobacco

Wow, lol. It should be legal based on the fact alone more people are arrested for it then anything else, the legal system would take a huge decrease in Bullshit it has to deal with. Thus money saved for more ya know actual crimes to solve.

I'm not well informed on this subject. I don't smoke it, so I have no desire to legalize it on that basis. It's not anywhere near a deal breaker for me either. But....

Like Rob, I work in NYC and you can't walk more than a block or two during lunch time or after work...and actually, even before work, without smelling someone doing a fat one. I also get reports from my wife that the problem of employees showing up high for work or after a break is becoming a problem. And there isn't jack squat she or Walmart can do about it. There's no "breath-a-lyzer" for THC.

And this is before legalization. I think like anything else that numbs people's brains, it will put a strain on the rest of us in some way because of people getting high before driving or operating equipment..like forklifts...or whatever. I hear about it now. It will get worse when its legal.

But I also think the gov't has no business telling any adult they can't get high at a backyard barbecue if they want to.

Like anything else that requires some degree of judgement... Stupid people will screw things up for themselves and others. Sk if the plan is to legalize it, there should be a way of holding someone accountable if they are truly responsible for harming someone else because they are high.

There is no breathalyzer for alcohol either when your on the job... That's a cop thing, not an employer test. An employer just needs to suspect your impaired.

Honestly, I never understood the mentality that if it was legal, everyone would just turn into a pot head. It's like saying if everyone can carry a gun we would be living in the wild west. Just because it's legal doesn't mean you can show up to work stoned.... Just like alcohol is legal.

Take a look at the places that legalize already and you can see they have quite literally benefited in every way, from the justice system to the tax system.

    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
    • 27.00 and change in tolls to drive down the shore from Rutherford,  47.00 in tolls to go out to Long island to visit dying relatives. Now I read they are going to raise the fees in the DMV. Murphy lied just to get elected when he said that seniors will get a significant tax break with his StayNJ" program to stop us from leaving.   Keep voting for democrats...this is what you get.  Tax and spend is all they know.  Never cut anything.  This state sucks.
