always_an_eagle 165 Posted December 6, 2016 I'm looking to buy a new rimfire for the spring. I have two 22lr rifles and I love shooting them, but I want to spice up the range trips to Clinton in the spring. I want to get a 22 magnum or a 17hmr, preferably in a bolt action (I'm down for a lever action.) I don't like Semi auto rimfires, not my slice of pie, you burn up too much ammo with them
Darrenf 422 Posted December 6, 2016 Why not go for the Savage BMag and have some fun with the .17WSM round?

T Bill 649 Posted December 6, 2016 I'm interested, the question is can you shoot that in the rimfire range in Clinton? Yes, 17 caliber rimfire is GTG at WMA ranges, Check the cost and availability of ammo, 17 HMR runs about 11-15 dollars a box of 50, 22 Mag a little less. but harder to find at the present time. In your price range are several bolt actions from Savage and Ruger. Henry's are higher.
Jpknj 6 Posted December 6, 2016 CZ 455 American can get it Under $400 in one caliber or get both barrels (17 & 22) for under $500. I seem to leave the 17 HRM barrel More accurate then I am. Nice fit and finish.
Sevenshot 98 Posted December 6, 2016 Take a look at the Marlin XT series. They come in mag or tube and you can get them in 22lr/m or 17hmr. A lot of the models have heavy barrels and the price is around $200, which leaves plenty of money for a solid piece of glass. I've been looking hard at the XT-VR. mintbore 15 Posted December 6, 2016 I hear so much good about the CZ452/455 over at Rimfire Central that it's getting old. Only negs I hear are the trigger and flimsy mag. But wood metal finish and accuracy is supposed to be exceptional.
Krdshrk 3,872 Posted December 6, 2016 Henry Lever Action? The .22LR Model is about $300 Golden boy models are a bit more. .22 WSM and .17HMR are a little pricier.
always_an_eagle 165 Posted December 6, 2016 I already have a Henry lever action model h001 and a Henry Golden Boy Eagle Scout edition rifle both in 22lr. The h001 is my beater/shooter and my Eagle Scout rifle is my wall hanger.
Malice4you 627 Posted December 6, 2016 Savage 93R series is great. I have a 93R17TR, as well as the .22lr MkII BRJ (same action). Love both, and with the right ammo, they are some of the most accurate guns I own. I am quite happy with the accutrigger on these guns. I run a harris bipod on the 17 (and a cheap bipod on the BRJ for now), the 17 has a Nikon buckmasters 4.5-14x42, the BRJ has a Nikon prostaff rimfire 3-12x42 on it IIRC. One disappointment is the TR is the only model that has the large bolt knob from Savage. I want it on my BRJ without modifying the knob that came with the gun. My Savage rimfires probably get the most range time of all my guns at this point. That should tell you my opinion of them best.
Darrenf 422 Posted December 7, 2016 I'm interested, the question is can you shoot that in the rimfire range in Clinton? If you're ever in South Jersey I'll be happy to let you try mine.
