Antifog amber lens?

Recommended Posts

Went shooting Sunday morning and had two problems. Fogging of lens and difficulty making out targets at 100 yards. I found these http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/3m-metaliks-sport-safety-glasses-with-amber-anti-fog-lens/

I wanted to know if there is something better on the market you would recommend or even better yet would be a 3 pack with clear and smoke that all have antifog for varying light conditions.

There are no anti-fog lenses, not really. You can try applying anti-fog treatments (like Cat Crap and the like)  to all of them and they work to a point, but when it gets humid and the lenses are undergoing temperature shifts, there is going to be condensation.

For summer fogging from your own sweat and outside humidity, wear your glasses a bit further from your face. For winter fogging, try to keep the lens temperature changes to a minimum.

OK, So by using an anti-fog spray or wax there is no added value to starting with a lens that has a film on it in addition. I should just keep the ones I have and get the cat crap or spray? I ask because I have no amber glasses and since I have to buy a pair if there is any added value I would spend a couple extra bucks on the glasses plus by the spray/wax.

While there are materials that are chemical inpregnated materials that will reduce fogging on lens mostly used in motor cross and chemistry protective suit usage. There are far more and less expensive liquids that can be easily applied to lens to prevent fogging.

Almost any soap ( surfactant) will work as well.

As far Amber lens they simple nightlight certain colors to the eye. Clear lens work better.

I ordered the cat crap paste and a cheapo multicolor lens set off amazon to test out. https://www.amazon.com/Unlimited-Shooting-Eyewear-Anti-Fog-Options/dp/B01MAWK1OF

When you get those glasses, Just take A drill bit and drill some holes in the top of the lens just under where they meet the frame.

I did that to all my lenses and it will solve your Issue. It least it did for me.   I drilled 5 holes 1/16" in diameter at the top of each lense.

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.

Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
