James River Armory AK74 - NJ legal

Recommended Posts

I think you are out of luck.  I was checking myself when I saw this.  I googled it and found some person actually posted their serial numbers. On it you can see the words JRAK74 as the model number.  Pretty stupid rule.

I hear that James River is a hit or miss also from what I read on another forum depending on who contracts James River to build the guns.  AIM Surplus did a run of them and people were complaining about them.  Atlantic Firearms had James River build guns for them too which were supposedly good but AF supplied the parts for quality control purposes so that may be the difference.

That's the same info I found as well from reading other forums. I don't know if these are still the current roll marks that are on the receivers. These rifles being sold by Classic Firearms for 699.00 is a pretty good deal, but due to NJ firearm legalities we can't own one.

I believe as the marking is "JRAK74" this does not qualify as "AK", for the same reason an "AR180B" is legal while an "AR180" is not.

That is the same line of thinking I have about the roll marks too. However, do you know any NJ FFL that is willing to do the transfer of a James River Armory AK type rifle?

Possibly - meanwhile look at the pictures on the Classic Firearms website -  one shows the user manuals which are titled "JRA AK-74" - that does not help.....
