Conceal carry practice with a blue gun

Recommended Posts

As I have expressed in another thread, my goal is to conceal carry for the first time within the next few months(in PA). Am in process of acquiring holster, gun belt, etc for my Glock 26 which should arrive in a few days. My specific question for this thread is your thoughts on practicing conceal carry here in NJ using a blue gun. I.e. To verify fit, comfort, holster positioning, etc in various everyday activities.

PA is a 90 minute drive for me so an adhoc ride there is impractical. I did search on this topic and did not find anything.

Your thoughts on potential issues, legal or otherwise, great idea/stupid idea, all welcome.

Thanks, Art

I dont see how a blue gun would be illegal but if it starts printing or showing while in public, I would be ready for a visit from the police.

Can't you experiment in your home/yard/driveway with the actual gun? That should give you a pretty good feel for everything instead of risking carrying a blue gun in public.

Do you mean carry a blue gun around in a holster as you are out and about in NJ?

If so, while it is not illegal in and of itself, I would not do it. That is asking for too many problems.

The blue gun is invaluable for safely practicing drawstroke and presentation, as well as rehearsing movement in your house all with zero risk of an ND.

Points well taken. Thank you. As suggested, I am inclined to just carry in my home and property to get some initial experience doing so. May also look into acquiring a blue gun for holster draw, drills, etc.

If you plan on practicing draws and such, there really isn't any reason that you don't use your "real" gun to do so, especially if you'd like to incorporate dry fire exercises (which would be ideal for practicing at home).

As far as carrying a blue gun around town; more trouble than its worth IMO.

There are even some websites that you can use for dry-fire drills, just google "computer dry fire drills" . Just be sensible and remove any and all ammo and loaded mags from the room before starting.

Training with a live gun always carries risks. It's always the unloaded guns that put rounds through the TV and the mirror. It's always the unloaded gun that shoots someone that should not have been shot. You read about training accidents constantly. Any training that does not require live fire and does require movement with a gun, it's better to use a training gun/blue gun. As you check angles and flow in your home, it's best to not be pointing a muzzle all over the place. As you practice your drawstroke, it's best to not be pointing a real gun at the sheetrock wall you determined to be your "safe" backstop.

Dry fire is its own animal, and requires your gun. It also requires 100% attention to detail.

Leave my wife's Pavona alone!

Just saying there are real blue guns, that are not training pistols. If I was a cop, and I saw a blue gun in a holster that's not going to deter me from treating it like a real gun until I confirmed it wasn't. In almost any other state it wouldn't be an issue, but in this state firearms printing in a holster are looked at differently regardless of the grip color.

Also consider that not everyone sees color the same. Quite a few people that see blue as black or gray. Color blindness is a real thing.

I went online this evening to order a Glock 26 Gen4 Bluegun.  Specifically part#FSG26G4 manufactured by Ring's Manufacturing.  Was surprised and disappointed to learn that Glock's contract with Ring's prevents them or their distributors from selling them to the public.  As a result I was unable to find anyone online that had them in stock and was willing to sell them to the public.  I have a LEO in my family.  Will have to speak with him and see if he can purchase one my behalf.

I believe there are two versions of the Glock 26 Bluegun, one Gen3(#FSG26) and the other Gen4(#FSG26G4). It was the latter I was trying to find.  Having said that, I am not sure what the differences are and whether it matters with respect to holster drills.

If this is considered a hijack, please feel free to delete and apologies to the OP.

Not the blue gun you're seeking, but any thoughts on one of the blade tech training barrels? Less obvious than the full blue, but neuters the gun and retains the trigger and slide functions. Guess it's less idiot proof, but curious on the thoughts.

I've used them before, and they work. But they still require a serious safety check, and a weapon disassembly - which for Glocks requires a trigger press, which is a great opportunity for Murphy to come visit - prior to use.

Having that inert plastic gun just makes it easy to grab it and do 20 reps.

And we all know, the more convenient it is, the more likely we are to do it.

RTSP in Randolph has them for sale on the wall in the store.

This thread got me to pull out my credit card and order a Beretta 92A1 blue gun. It came with removable magazines weighted for "empty" and "loaded" to help simulate mag changes.

Now begs the question, does anyone have online training exercises they can recommend? I'd like to do something with this other than shout "pew pew" in my basement while watching The Walking Dead.

Where did you buy it from?

Ever consider the SIRT pistol? Completely safe (just don't aim the laser in anyone's eyes), and lets you work on draw strokes and trigger pulls. Good for some force on force drills too, though blue guns are probably better if you plan to get really physical with hand to hand stuff.

An update.  Just ordered and received a Glock 26 Bluegun. Purchased from www.bluegunstore.com.

They stated it would take 10-20 business days.  However, I ordered it on 4/30 and it arrived today.

Specifically, I ordered Item #FSG26G4W, manufactured by Ring's Manufacturing.  The "W" indicates I opted for the "Weighted" version ($73.99, free shipping).  It weighs in at 1lb 11 oz.  Nearly identical to the weight of my real Glock 26 with a loaded mag.  Very pleased with it.  Very much matches the size, profile, weight, etc.  Importantly, it's fit in my Vedder IWB holster is exactly the same as my real G26.

Hi guys , quick question, I have a friend who I'd like to gift my long gun to , but he does not have a firearms ID card or a hunting license,  can I still legally gift him one of my long guns  in New Jersey

      Hi Guys,

I found that information about New Jersey's shooting ranges was scattered (if even available) for the various public/private places we shoot at. Please lend me a hand by shooting me a PM with what range(s) you shoot at, and fill in as much of the information as you can below. You can use the blank one at the end to cut and paste into a PM (or a post on this thread) and I will update this post accordingly.

Thanks for your help, and hopefully we can create a single source of information for all the ranges in NJ.

Hey Shooters! We have opened registration for the 2018 NJ State Steel Challenge Championship on June 2nd and 3rd.
      http://www.obsteelchallenge.com/obsc-2018-registration
We have changed some things up a bit and I think you guys will be pretty happy about the changes. You can shoot two guns in the same squad, just not back to back. You will have the ability to shoot 6 guns if you shoot 2 guns in each of the 3 sessions (Saturday June 2nd AM, Saturday June 2nd PM, Sunday June 3rd Session).
If you are not very familiar with last year’s match, please feel free to check out our webpage and see the videos as well as links to the Facebook photo albums (Old Bridge Steel Shooters).
      http://www.obsteelchallenge.com/2017-nj-state-championship-…
The most important thing to note is our chef’s from last year have canceled their global cooking tour and will be joining us…
That is correct, the Boy Scouts are back!
We are looking forward to seeing all of you at our match!!

Contact Samco Global Arms about ordering a case of 7.62x39 Yugo ammo and having it shipped to New Jersey, they told me it's illegal to receive ammo in NJ unless you hold a 01 FFL license, they also said the Yugo SKS rifles are illegal in NJ...

      Is this illegal (SKS)? https://www.samcoglobal.com/1-sks.html

      Per the website:

Is this really illegal or is this company just being a **** towards NJ? I'm towards the later.
