What kind of animal was that?

Recommended Posts

In the middle of the day, I saw the this dark thing run across the road, and then swim through a little stream in Morris Township NJ.

This was a heavily wooded are by Patriots path.

It was a little bigger than a squirrel, thin tail, dark fur, and able to swim.

Not how to describe the gait, but it was kind of hopping.

The long tail weasel and the mink seem to be in the running.

The little guy zipped across the road, then same across the small creek, so I only saw it for a second or two.

It was a pretty neat sighting. The first time I saw that kind of animal in the wild.

There is an otter in the area too. I saw it at the high bridge falls dam in lake solitude around valentines day. Went into an old beaver hut and came out with a decent size trout.

I was only a few miles from the center of morristown, in an area of $$$ homes, so I'm thinking the mink makes the most sense.

If I was in the center of town, maybe a weasel.

Space herpes.

Could also be muskrat. I've seen them up that way. For some reason I always see them in the crappiest areas that border wetlands. Or maybe I just spend too much time in the crappiest areas that border wetlands.

My money is on space herpes.
