Simple.

Ask yourself the following question:

Do I want an AK?

If the answer is "Yes", get one.

If the answer is "No", do not get one.

If the answer is "I don't know" wait until you do.

I got one used from a fellow forum member for a great price before the election. I always wanted one and figured that may be my only chance - depending on the election outcome.

Tricked it out to my wishes and I am very pleased with it.

Do you own a REAL rifle yet?  REAL is defined as a rifle with a minimum bore diameter of at least .30 caliber and a projectile of 150-200 grains in weight.  For "Thumpability"!

.308 is a REAL rifle

.30-06 is a REAL rifle

7.62 x 54R is a REAL rifle

.35 Remington is a REAL rifle

.30-30 is a REAL rifle

7mm Remington Magnum is a REAL rifle

.45-70 is a REAL rifle

--lots of others, take yer pick!

Having a platform that can reach out and touch something with AUTHORITY at DISTANCE (and not be played with by too badly by the wind) is advantageous...

God damn it, Gump! You're a god damn genius! This is the most outstanding answer I have ever heard. You must have a goddamn I.Q. of 160. You are goddamn gifted, Private Gump. Listen up, people...

So, a Mosin is a REAL rifle and 6.5 creedmoor is no good for distance. I'll try to remember that.

What's the cheapest of these real rifles to shoot? Asking for a friend...

Know thy enemy

yes

cheap ammo

fun to shoot

every American boy should have one

No real cleaning or maintenance

shoots brass, steel, new or reloads

Good advice!  I have one, and I'm thinking of getting another.

And an AK has much more utility in real world applications than a "REAL" rifle.

In addition to the 7.62 x 39 fodder that feeds the AK (SKS) platform (which is a REAL rifle as defined by me above), the "cheapest" (depending upon country of origin) would probably be 54R surplus ammo w/corrosive primers?  But consider that one doesn't purchase a REAL rifle to fire multiple boxes of ammo in a single trip to an indoor range at a Zombie target only 10 yards away.....like they do w/ AR's in 5.56!

AK is a REAL rifle Frank.  It fits the criteria:  .30 cal and 150 grains (yes Tula makes JSP 154 grains).  Even the standard plinking round at 123-124 grains is twice the weight of 62 grain 5.56.

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.
    • I saw Lara's interview on Bannon's War Room, and that gave me pause for thought. Her conjecture depends primarily on the veracity of her sources. Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
