If you had ~1500$ to spend... 14.5 Pinned to 16 AR vs Tavor or make a suggestion!

Recommended Posts

Just curious..
Looks like ill be getting a bit of a refund back now that i've filed, and am contemplating putting some of it (and some saved up money) towards a purchase..
Either a 14.5 Pinned to 16" AR, or maybe a TAVOR. My Parents are Israeli (i'm a Citizen), though i was born here, so i thought itd be a cool piece to own. Which would you go for? I'd probably want to stay around 1250 or so, though i realize id have to swing more for a TAVOR (Probably like 1500 for a used one). Feel free to make suggestions as well. I Don't have an AK Variant yet, though id certainly like to get something of the sort eventually.

Have both AR and Tavor SAR and X95.

If you already have an AR, I'd absolutely go with Tavor.

I was actually in your position not too long ago. I was considering Daniel Defense AR15 or X95. Ended up going with X95. Love bullpup design, short compact yet full 16in barrel.

Since youre Isralian by ethnicity, I would get a Tavor.

Btw check out the official Tavor thread: http://www.njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/85793-official-iwi-tavor-thread/

I have a few AR's.
A Daniel Defense DDM4V5LW, a custom 20" Barreled build, and a Bushmaster Varminter (24" Barrel)....
Thought itd be cool to have a 14.5" barreled AR but then again variety is nice. Leaning towards the TAVOR but the $$ to pick a new one up is killin me.

When I first got mine I was so surprised being so used to the AR platform ....considering it is not light and a bullpup but I fell in love with it.

Not light? With no mag, its 7.13 lbs.

Thats not heavy compared to my LWRC M6 AR, 7.3 lbs. empty.

Going with a 14.5" pinned AR... you are looking for short overall length. Can't beat a Tavor for that.

I'd say get the 16" Tavor, and have a muzzle brake pinned. I got mine from Monmouth Arms, and very happy with it. If you decide to go with a Tavor, why make it longer with an 18" barrel?

Between the SAR and X95... I actually prefer the SAR. The magazine release on the X95 is supposed to feel AR like, but I didn't like the position. I did A LOT to my Tavor... Geissele trigger pack and bow, MI ejection port cover, PA shell defector, HG ambidextrous safety, and finally GHW folding charging handle. While the basic Tavor is a good design, there are improvements that can be made.

Yeah, a short OAL is the idea behind my next purchase for sure. Gona look into the tavor a bit more. Dont want to drop 1800 on a rifle thatll need another 500 in upgrades.

The trigger on the current Tavors is actually the upgraded X95 pack. It wasn't that bad of a trigger... but I like my guns being upgraded. If you get a 16" Tavor, really you only need a sight (Aimpoint PRO is on mine)... but you could use the flip up sights of need be.

If you get an AR, you are going to do the same thing... buy a $X rifle, and put $Y money into it. Some people do worse than $1,800/$500 in those places. [emoji6]

good purchase Lambo. Heres a trick to the trade...Married 9 years now....don't tell her your buying it!!! When i buy a new gun i usually tell my wife I'm heading to the range as i walk out the door with and empty rifle bag...pick up my new gun...pack my new gun in the bag.....leave the box at work...head home at the end of the day. Works like a charm.  :keeporder:

Now my biggest issue is I'm out of room in the safe and have another gun to pick up this week....this will be tricky lol

might need the name of your divorce lawyer soon!

Thanks folks. Gram, ive made ARs appear in my safe cause i had a few, but an FDE tavor? Shed notice that crap sooner or later. It also doesnt fit right now, gotta sell something LMAO. Ill be OK as long as i sell some stuff, but to be honest i probably dropped more than i should have. Was a good deal so i couldnt go wrong. PM me if youre interested in the details, haha.

    • Sorry, both are SPF.  Being picked up this week. Win M22  22 LR SPF to Ringwoodfrank.
    • Yup I see. Looks like right now you can only purchase the 2023-2024 permit still. I assume won't be able to purchase 24-25 season permit until July.
    • Just a heads-up for anyone who might also be in this situation. I joined USLS mid-April of 2022. Some time after renewing for 2023, I changed email providers, and dutifully reflected my new address on my account page. So, I have been anticipating renewal alerts at my new address, but those never arrived. I logged in to my account the other day, and was surprised to see that my subscription expired that same day. I went to my account main information page, confimed that my email address was correct, then went to the billing page, which showed my previous two payments, but which did not give me any apparent way to pay up for the new year. I requested support using the Customer Service form on the web site, but received no reply. Today I called their support number. Apparently changing the email address from my view of my account page did nothing to change the address that they use internally for billing purposes, including expiration notifications. Maybe they also use that address for replies to the support form, even if a different email address is entered there. Also, my account was set up to auto-renew and charge my credit card without my intervention, but that setting did not show on my account page in any obvious way. So, if you have USLS and have changed your email address since you last renewed, you might want to give them a call to ensure that they send renewal information to your correct address. The prospect of having legal coverage lapse while carrying in NJ was, for me, a less that confidence inspiring experience. I will note that the telephone-based customer service was excellent.
    • F*n imbeciles. They know damned well (or should) that, even if passed by the Colorado Senate and signed into law, virtually that entire load of crap is certain to fail Bruen/Heller scrutiny, and probably sooner, rather than later (SCOTUS). What a monumental waste of time (of course, how much can a dip$h*t's time be worth, anyway?) and energy. I passed through Colorado a few times in the 70s, and visited some clients there in the 80's & 90's, and, even by the end of that period, I had the impression that it was politically fairly conservative (with a few exceptions such as Aspen). WTF happened?
