The lower end 870s (express, express magnum) are not as good as they used to be.  We all know Remingtons quality control has taken hit after hit so this isn't old news.  

So, if it was between a baseline 870 express and a 500, the 500 wins hands down.

I had this model and I had nothing but problems.  Rounds wouldn't eject and stuck casings.

Switched to the Mossy and life is good.  Not to mention the safety is ambi and the slide release is perfect for a lefty.

I like the Velcro better, but I already had the Mesa setup and I need the rail for the optic.

I think @High Exposure is stuck in 2003, for the most part.  Between his love affair with Glock and Remington 870s, it's kinda dated.
