Howard 538 Posted May 8, 2017 Many of us have multiple guns in different calibers. This is just a reminder to be careful that you always load your gun with the correct ammo. Some have advised to not place different caliber guns and ammo on the same table while at the range. The reason for this is that 9mm will feed into a .40 cal chamber as will .40 cal into a 9mm chamber. The results can be problematic to downright dangerous. Yesterday at a shooting match a person accidentally loaded a round of .40 cal into his .45 cal magazine about midway though the load. Fortunately the RO heard when this round went off and stopped the shooter. The casing in the picture below was found in the chamber and we had to rod it out. This could have been worse as it is possible to have a squib in the barrel and have the casing extract which would lead to the next round correctly feeding an possibly blowing up the gun in your hand. This has been a public service announcement, you can now resume your normal daily activities.

This was a case of a person trying to save a few pennies and he picked up a round he saw laying on the ground thinking it was .45 when in fact it was .40 cal. I can see confusing 40 and 9, but 40 and 45? much bigger difference.... but yeah, I guess plenty of newer shooters.... or person thought it would be "cool" to experiment.
