Right handed but left eye dominant

Recommended Posts

Here's an old thread regarding cross eye dominance. I was recently diagnosed as being left eye dominant. However, now I'll need to retrain myself, which is hard since I've been a long time shooter.

Here are some videos I found helpful to compensate for us shooters . . .

should not be a issue when shooting a handgun. however while shooting a long gun is where you will run into issues with opposite eye dominance. i tell people to cover left eye (if left eye dominant and right handed) and shoot right handed. with left eye covered you are forced to use right eye.

Same here and honestly for a new shooter it is much easier to shoot left handed with your long guns. Pistols shouldn't matter much. I still shoot pistol well right handed. Long guns if its not left handed i can't hit the broad side of the barn being that my vision in my right eye is not great. I suggest training yourself to shoot left handed when it comes to rifles & shotguns. It will become second nature very quickly.

I am the same way. I usually shoot long guns from left shoulder. This year I installed red dots on handgun and a rifle and started shooting from the right. Seems to be working fine; maybe a little bit slow because I do not have much time to practice lately. I cannot shoot iron sights with right eye though.

Shoot rifle left and handgun right.  Adjust grip as necessary for sight alignment.

This is what I've always been told at the different classes I've taken for Tactical Carbine/Pistol and Bullseye pistol

Watching Larry Vickers operate on video is actually helpful to see how he slings up his rifle and holds the pistol.
