The guy wants me to mail the shotgun to his FFL.

Can I mail it directly to his FFL or do I need to take it to a local FFL which then has to send it to his FFL?

U can ship it to his FFL yourself as long as his dealer will accept from a private person.

Do some research first and call up / contact the FFL.  I have been approached by a person from IL about shipping a firearm to FFL. He even sent me a IL FID.  However the address did not show up on google. Contacted FFL and he doesnt recall the name. FFL suggested to walk away if the deal is too good to be true, and I did walk away.
