Colt series 70 vs series 80

Recommended Posts

For the past couple months I've been considering a Colt Compitetion (still not sure if I'm going to go 9 or 45).

I'll be using it mostly for IDPA shooting, where I'm currently rated  in the low end of the Sharpshooter class.

So as I'm getting ready to close in on a Colt Compitetion, Colt releases the same gun in series 70 and calls it "better".

I'm reading as much as I can on the re-introduced series 70, and wondering how much of a difference the series 70 might make over a series 80 for a shooter in my classification.

Any thoughts?

The difference is an extra safety in the slide. Complicates the action and the trigger. At least in my opinion. I've built a couple and they were both 70s and have an 80. The 70s are better in every way. Easier to work the trigger. It adds nothing in the way of reliability or smoothness. Get the 70.

I'm with Walt, I don't always shoot 1911's but when I do it's a series 70.

As far as calibers, just go with the 9. If you ever decide to shoot USPSA you can shoot SS minor and have 2 extra rounds. Don't really know the IDPA rules as far as major/minor. Components or ammo is cheaper with 9 to so you will shoot more.

For sale is an Original Colt 601 Slick side upper. It has the original rear sight, ejection door, feed ramp and barrel nut. This upper has the larger diameter take down pin in the front so I will include the bushing to make it work on current lower receivers. Also included is a Nodak Spud Repro small triangle charging handle, it was $50 new but no longer available. Cost of upper includes shipping. These uppers on Gun Broker are $550 and do not include the charging handle. $400 OBO!
Ejection port cover is from a colt 607

      Hello,
I am new here and looking to sell my two hand guns (I have another post for a Glock G19 GEN5 that will have a description very similar to this post).

This post is for a Browning 22 1911 Black Label with fiber optic sights that I purchased new from Firearms Support and Storage June of 2019. I have used it a total of two times at RTSP in Union NJ and in it's lifetime it has shot only 390 rounds down range.
It comes with 2 10 round clips magazines - I have not used it since prior to covid, so I will give it the best cleaning I can before the sale.

The price is $400 plus FFL transfer fees.
If you have questions or if I can share any other photos, please let me know.
The first to post "I'll take it" wins the sale
      Thank you!

    • Before you tell me not to move to NJ, I know, it sucks. lol  I actually lived in Jersey most of my life and moved over to PA 5 years ago, and now I plan on coming back.  I bought my first firearms when I was a NJ resident, so I am pretty familiar with the laws, however I do have a couple questions... I have acquired a nice collection while living in PA and obviously want to make sure I follow the law when I come back.  I have a few AR's that I built myself.  As long as I pin the stock and replace the flash hider with a pinned/welded muzzle brake, I am good, right? Also, regarding the "Other/Non-NFA firearms", would it be the same deal?  I have a couple AR pistol style firearms that I built.  The stripped receivers were bought as "other" on the ATF form at the FFL.  So, if I ensure the barrel is at least 12.5" and there's a vertical foregrip, would I be good?   I appreciate any assistance.
    • Sorry, both are SPF.  Being picked up this week. Win M22  22 LR SPF to Ringwoodfrank.
    • Yup I see. Looks like right now you can only purchase the 2023-2024 permit still. I assume won't be able to purchase 24-25 season permit until July.
