Firearms International Model D .380

Recommended Posts

Be interested to know if anyone has had any experience with this neat little pistol.

Apparently F.I. was going to make these for Colt as the Colt Pony but the deal fell thru.

They still have the CPA serial number prefix (Colt Pony..)

Wanted a little .380 but didn't care for anything out there. Too big, too small, too plasticky, or too expensive..etc

Found this little guy. A scaled down 1911. (my favorite format)   Real metal!!..

Kewl lil pistol. Have to read up on it. As for all metal baby 1911 style. A Sig P238 wouldn't fit the bill? I have the P938 and love the 1911 style relationship.

Hi John,
The Sig is nice....but... being an old fart on a budget, just couldn't pass this up for $150 plus NICS..
And... I just love the old stuff... Guns, cars, etc.
All the best,
Kenny

Have to stop by and chat one of these days and check it out.

I've seen the gun. Quality firearm.  Why not the SIG 238?  Maybe $600 vs $150. Is the SIG better made?  Time will tell.

If you know what you're looking at you often can get more than you pay for.  A quick check of the auction sites shows these are going for $400 or so in this condition.

Kenny, one thought I had. Check to see if the firing pin protrudes from the breech with the hammer down.  Not a design flaw.  Just means you can't lower the hammer on a loaded round.

For 150, I would have grabbed it too. He didn't mention that right away. ;)

Hi Griz,

Saw a note about the firing pin. Good catch.   Will check it out, just out of curiosity.  As this is just going to be a range toy to play around with, it won't be carried loaded.  Hope to get to the range sometime next week to check it out.

It does fit my hand so nicely.

All the best,

Kenny

    • i know i've written about 101.5 before. you guys know i listen to it in the am otw work.    so this morning, at warwick and atlantic aves, it faded.....was fading into "jack and diane" song. couldn't tell what station. while stopped at the light, i couldn't hear 101.5 at all. as i took off, it got back to 101, but very choppy. when the newer looking mazda6 that was in back of me caught up at the next light, it was gone again. when i left from that light, same thng...choppy, and fading back n forth. it continued that way till i crossed the freeway, and as i passed the swim club on warwick, it went to just static. turned onto upland way in haddonfield, and just like someone flipped a switch, 101.5 came back crystal clear.  not really sure what to make of that. at first since it seemed worse when that mazda was close, i thought possibly something from that car was causing interference, but he went onto the freeway, and it continued. it doesn't make sense that this station would go wonky in just that 2 or 3 mile strip......
    • As noted, it's a standard engineering issue of "how much, how often" . . . I had a BMW 530 that would ping with anything less than 93 octane gas.  If one of my kids put a tank of regular in it, the pistons didn't burn right through.  I'd start topping the tank off with some premium until the pinging stopped.  There was never any damage done.   At the same time, I just don't see any reason for +P much less +P+ . . . My father gave me a bucket of .38SP a year ago and I unloaded all of the +P rounds but I was putting them through an old Colt revolver.
