Gun Buyback (07/28-29)

Somebody please call the number and ask:

1) Will they be paying for bb guns or pellet guns?

2) Is there some sort of legal protection for those who will be transporting illegally, outside of the exemptions, to get their guns to the buyback?

3) If someone shows up at the buyback with a gun and decides not to accept the offer made, will they be able to take their firearm away with them - no questions asked.

My employer depends heavily on state funding and I was told a while ago to stop harassing Trenton.

Funny how they chose churches as the drop-off locations. Quasimodo would approve.

Why are you people supporting this? The money given out and what the event costs the jurisdiction is coming from your taxes. Is a few hundred bucks worth the anti-gun publicity that will come from this?

this thread makes my head hurt....

Seriously? What's the issue? It bothers you that much, but 1) you managed to read the thread and 2) respond with absolutely nothing that was beneficial to the thread.

What's your concern?

I never once suggested or advocated scamming the system. In my particular case, not that I owe you or anyone else an explanation, I purchased a couple pellet guns many years ago, prior to ever knowing a handgun permit was required to legally own them in NJ. I have no use for them and have no desire to get permits for them.

When I learned of the buyback, I thought it could solve my issue in getting rid of these and putting some coin in my pocket while doing so.

I can't speak for others and I too despise anyone that would purposely attempt to scam the system.

slow down cupcake

I don't need the money, I'd get rid of the bb guns for another reason

What we do or don't do means little to you.  If you can't play nice, take your $hit and go home

you want action, you want to stop 'talking' then grab a gun with like minded people and 'march' on Trenton.  Last time we had over 10k there in the 90s and it didn't do anything.  you need MEANINGFUL action and resolve coupled with civil disobedience.  Unless you are willing to do that, pipe down and stop trying to be a tough guy

to all the rest, was a good thread

You don't need a permit for something you already own.

You need a paper trail for pistols.

No "paper trail" needed for pistols legally acquired outside of NJ.

You can move to NJ with your collection of pistols that you acquired while a resident of another state and continue to legally possess them in NJ without even thinking about a NJ pistol permit.

You can go to Cabela's in another state, buy a bb pistol or a black powder pistol (not regulated in other states but considered handguns in NJ), bring them back into NJ and legally possess them in NJ without even thinking about a NJ pistol permit.

Here's the mind blower:

You can buy one of those polymer80 spectre 80% glock-compatible frames, have it shipped to your house in NJ, buy all the rest of the parts necessary to complete it, travel over to PA or DE or another state that does not outlaw individual manufacture of firearms, finish milling/drilling out the frame, and then return to NJ with a legal, functional, semiautomatic centerfire handgun without even thinking about a NJ pistol permit.

***WARNING***A lot of INAL inference following:

I won't matter. It was still acquired legally in another state. It just so happens the other state doesn't classify black powder pistols as guns. Therefore making the purchase legal.

Or I could be totally wrong.

Ok, I'll bite. So, if I purchased a pellet gun (pistol style, single pump) from out of state, I can keep and legally use it in NJ?

Do I need to be able to prove I purchased it from someone or somewhere? What if there was no paper trail?

There are 1000s of handguns acquired legally in other states in NJ.  If you acquired it legally you own it legally as has been said.  If you transport and use it in accordance with NJ laws when you're in NJ there are no issues.  No need to prove where or from whom you acquired it.

Illegal possession of a handgun in NJ is when you're carrying outside of the scope of transportation laws without a permit, using it in a crime, or a prohibited person.  If you don't do any of that it's legal.

There is no paper trail for air guns or black powder guns acquired outside of NJ.  The burden of proof is on the prosecution not the defendant anywhere in the US.

Regardless of what some nameless person told a caller on the phone when asked, under 2C:39-1f, BB rifles and pistols ARE considered firearms in this G-d forsaken state.

" f.   "Firearm" means any handgun, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, automatic or semi-automatic rifle, or any gun, device or instrument in the nature of a weapon from which may be fired or ejected any solid projectable ball, slug, pellet, missile or bullet, or any gas, vapor or other noxious thing, by means of a cartridge or shell or by the action of an explosive or the igniting of flammable or explosive substances.  It shall also include, without limitation, any firearm which is in the nature of an air gun, spring gun or pistol or other weapon of a similar nature in which the propelling force is a spring, elastic band, carbon dioxide, compressed or other gas or vapor, air or compressed air, or is ignited by compressed air, and ejecting a bullet or missile smaller than three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with sufficient force to injure a person. "

So to paraphrase a well-hated Socialist Senator from Kalifornia:

"Ladies and gentlemen, boy and girls, TURN THEM IN !!!!!!"
