Had to put our Chessie down

Recommended Posts

Well, our Chessie fought a great fight but the cancer finally got the best of her.

I posted back in February about how  our dog that quickly became every lethargic, long story short she was bleeding internally and needed emergency surgery.  Removed her spleen, stabilized her and after a few days in the hospital she came home.  Test results showed it was a very aggressive cancer.

Vet gave her 6-9 months to live if we tried chemo, probably only 2 months without.  She responded well to the chemo but 5 months later the cancer came back and she started bleeding internally again.  This time nothing we could do but put her down.

Breaks my heart, she was only 7 years old!  I will post a pic later tonight.

Man, I miss not having a dog.

RIP sweet girl!

Sorry for your loss.

I had to put my chocolate lab down 3 weeks ago. Hardest thing I ever had to do.

we got her 8 years ago in the Outer Banks of NC, and we came down to the OBX this week for our yearly visit.  This week has been the worst week so far.

she loved walking on the beach, swimming in the ocean and playing in the sand.  Every time I go to the beach I sit there thinking about my dog and the time we had.

Think I need to go back to NJ!

I'm truly sorry for your loss. We had a similar thing happen with our Golden. I know how brutal and heart wrenching it is.    You have to grieve at your own pace but when you reach that point finding another dog does help. Not forget, but at least fill the void.

Sorry for your loss bro. Just went through the same thing with our Golden who had lymphoma and survived 14 mo with treatment. This is the third dog, I have lost to cancer. After a month we decided there was no reason to wait and got a Golden puppy. Not easy raising a pup. Yeah, we still miss Cindy but a new pup helps put a smile on your face.  Anway, I am sure you will get another one if you are a dog lover.

Thanks everyone.  I know there are quite a few dog lovers on here who completely understand, she was part of the family.

The wife and kids are already asking for another dog but for me it is just too soon, besides we are still paying off a huge vet bill.  In time I will definitely get another dog, not a replacement but another furry friend,

Thanks for the encouragement, I think we will start looking for our next family member shortly.  Just can't decide on another Lab or a Chessie!
