pho3nix 5 Posted October 8, 2017 I own a property with two houses on it. Let's call them 100 and 100A (cottage house). I am moving from 100A to 100. I asked if I could just have my fpid updated and call it a typo. The clerk pointed out that it has to match my driver's license (which has been updated to 100, but they don't issue stickers anymore). Clerk told me to just leave it as I own both and it will present correctly. I know I will need to pay for NJ DMV to issue a new drivers license ($11). But my town is asking me for two references (S 033 rev 09/09), the mental health form (sp 66 (rev 01/15), and form 212A for criminal records /$20. Still in possession of my fpid, has not been recalled, so why would I need all the checks again? Is the clerk wrong? I was thinking of meeting with the chief (small town) and see what he thinks. I would like to know what the law says, so I'm here
JackDaWack 2,895 Posted October 8, 2017 The laws says if you change addresses you file for a change of address. When you apply for a change of address you are applying for a new FPID and permits if you want them. SO, all background checks and references are normal. Any time your PD processes a permit or FPID they do the standard procedure. I believe, even if you lost it and needed it replaced you would do the same. Howard 538 Posted October 8, 2017 Yea in the socialist people's republic of New Jermany there is technically no change of address for you FID card, change your address and start from scratch to get a new one. As you learned it does not matter if you move to the house next door or one 100 miles away.
