New York ensnares another one - Air Force Mother jailed over gun in NYC

Recommended Posts

I know people need to be smart but when you come from a gun state, the concept that you can't even have a gun in your car without a permit is foreign.  It's so foreign, you simply don't process it.   The flip side is also true.   Leave NJ and head west and for the most part, it's just fine to have a gun in the glove box.  In fact, it seems unsafe NOT to have it in the glove box.

Ah well, she'll just pay a huge fine, get it pled down to something stupid.  NYC will get its pound of flesh and move on to the next victim.

Mother, Air Force Vet JAILED OVER HANDGUN In New York – Sent to Riker’s Island

Deanna Jo Robinson was on her way from Texas to bring her two children to New York so they could spend some time with their father. Having served in the Iraq war with the Air Force, Robinson had military clearances and has an active, valid Texas LTC. She kept her defensive handgun in the glovebox of her car. Her mistake was traveling to New York.

She was subsequently arrested, apparently by the NYPD in the Bronx, on November 11th, under the charge of “265.03 FC (CRIM POSS WEAPON-2ND DEGREE C Felony)” for daring to want to protect herself and her children from violent thugs. She has been booked into Riker’s Island at the Rose M. Singer Center, alongside murderers and armed robbers. Her friends are now asking for help to get her out.

A Funded Justice page, started by James Gressett, reads:

“Deanna Jo, loving mother of two adorable boys, Veteran, Activist and friend in liberty, was arrested in NYC on Nov 11 while traveling from Texas, when her self-defense handgun was discovered in her vehicle. Please help us free her from Rikers.

Two beautiful little boys are wondering where their mother is after the family of three traveled across the country from Texas to NYC so the children could spend time with their estranged father. Deanna Jo is a responsible mother and a veteran with military clearances and a Texas License to Carry. Concerned primarily with her children’s safety and posing no threat to any other person, Deanna Jo arrived at her destination, where her estranged husband took the children into his house then contacted police, who found her self-defense handgun in her vehicle. No mother should be forced to leave behind her best means of self defense, yet the City of New York sends a clear message: “We do not care about your Constitutional rights or your personal safety, and the only people who have guns here are criminals.” Now Deanna Jo sits in a cage at Rikers Island, stripped of her rights and incarcerated, and her children are missing her dearly. She needs to return to them so they can be with their mother. The city has basically told her that her life and the lives of her children are meaningless and that her right to protect them is trivial.
We are a group of friends who want to see Deanna Jo reunited with her children as soon as possible.
This fund is to help us do that, plus assist with the legal battle to come.”

Deanna Jo Robinson’s booking information.

They are trying to raise $25,000 for legal fees, which likely includes paying for bail, which currently stands at $7,499. Her next court date is December 4th. As of this writing, they are already up to $3750 after one day. Go HERE to donate to her fund.

This isn’t Robinson’s first experience being a target of the authorities.

In 2015, she was the subject of a very public battle with “child protection services”, where police officers and deputies in her home area of Hunt County, just outside of Dallas, stormed her home to take her children. Hunt County deputy Josh Robinson (no relation) can be seen on video beating her while she was handcuffed and pinned in a corner, as she cried out that she was pregnant.

In that case, Robinson was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing, and in fact, the “child protection services” officials later admitted that there was no writ or warrant for her.

The narrative in the OP says her husband called police after he took the kids.

Why would the police search the vehicle?  Why did the husband call the police after he took the kids?  Did she threaten him or something?   Did the police ask "do you have any weapons?".   It seems like this is being sold to us as NYC overreach, which it is, but that there's something else going on.

See, angry people do things.. irrational things. And see, not every state  understands the constitution..

We don't have as Paul Harvey always said, "the rest of the story".

"Oh but there's something else going on"

Of course there is something else going on. There always is. That isn't the damn point.

The point is whether or not a mother, a woman, can or cannot carry a handgun for self defense. And whether or not she should be arrested and imprisoned and her life ruined, for no violent crime based on a phone call by someone who simply hates her.

You can do a lot of illegal stuff and no one will ever find out.  People do all sorts of illegal stuff, and no one ever finds out, until "something else goes on" - it's called "life" and something else is always going to go on.

This sort of logic is the #1 cause we're sitting here today playing internet lawyer on a message board over barrel threads, stock pins, and counting how many rounds Papa Murphy will let you buy online (the answer is 0)
