Help needed

Recommended Posts

There is a lot of good info available here. Best not to listen to cops, friends or lawyers when it comes no NJ gun statutes. I am sure there are local ordinances on where you store your powder, etc.

Just use common sense and you will be fine. At least until January!

Yeah wasn't sure so rather ask then not ask. But thanks.

The sadly wasn't a knock on you. It was more so directed towards what people believe in this state and what people spread and that all of it is believable because the communists in charge here have no respect for the Constitution.

Also hollow points are legal. Treat their transportation like you would a handgun.

Don't mean to pick on words. But are you talking about "casting" lead bullets or loading your own ammunition ?

Makes sense. Research the load data, write it down, double check, clutter free work space, basic safety around powders/primers etc.

Small batches, building it slowly, testing small batches until you achieve desired & safe spec.

Frequent double checking your ammo from reload against reference.

Start learning by getting the Lyman Reloading Handbook and studying how to reload.  This will give you a firm base to get started.  Find a reloading buddy to ease the learning curve after that.  We'll be here for you when your ready.

As others have said, read, read, read and then read some more.

Definitely get the Lyman Reloading Handbook, I would also recommend the Hornady Handbook of Cartridge Reloading as well as The ABCs of Reloading, it is a bit dated but has tons of information.  I also recommend the Lyman 50th edition reloading manual.

Reloading is not difficult.  You just need to be focused and methodical, double and triple check everything.  If your mind is on something else, do something else.  Poorly made ammo can kill you.

Read everything,  watch videos (Ultimate Reloader is a good video maker).  Dont slimp on quality.  Get a good press,  can't go wrong with a Dillon, hornady or RCBS press, this will help minimize issues.  You will also need a good scale for measuring/verifying powders.  A caliper is also very useful for measuring cartridge length.

casting bullets is similiar to casting sinkers, you need the correct alloy and the correct temperature and you need to warm the bullet mold.

For a beginner I would be buying the bullets  and other components.you will need loading manuals and NEVER use a load from anyone else. What was good in there gun may blow yours up .
