IDF rifle course

Recommended Posts

Hey fellas, my uncle served in the IDF and wants us (and his 16 year old son; his other kids are 13 and 10 and likely too young) to attend an IDF based training course. We found Cherev Gidon in PA @ 295/person for a 6 hr course (including the 1hr lunch break) but was wondering if there was anything better? Dont mind driving 2hrs to attend, thats no big deal. The 300$ isnt really an issue either, just wondering how they are as far as quality and what not. That is for a basic rifle course BTW which includes ammo.

Didnt read them but their facebook page came up on google with like 3.5 or 3.7 stars so figured id ask around.

Im not sure where would allow that. Im a member of R14 but i doubt they would let it fly?

We're 3 people. Me my uncle and my 16YO cousin. Im sure i could find others who are interested or im sure others on here would be. Would gladly pay for a course, never taken one and my skills are lacking severely. I simply have two little kids with a single income and it hasnt really been a priority, but id certainly consider one if my uncle was already going. He was in some sort of elite idf unit back in the day so id love to hit the range with him sometime, regardless.. Funny because i could never imagine most of my now-overweight family in uniform... little cousin is an officer, have some tank commanders and crap in the family.. father was one of a hand full who worked on the original F16s when they first came to their Air Force (skyhawks until then).

spoke with my friend, he doesn’t feel comfortable running hot training with real ammo for untrained civilians, mostly because you have to break a firing line during the exercise, this is an example

he suggested very good alternative: dry run with paintball. If we will find enough people it could be interesting.

Btw the video is in Hebrew but it doesn’t matter

What makes IDF training better than our Army or Marine Corps?

Different, not better.

For instance, IDF clear rooms differently than US Forces.

The same can be said of US military, Police, and SWAT.

All work, but all work optimally in the optimal scenarios they were created for.

Looks quite similar to US infantry tactics:

Other than the weaponry, not much of a difference.

The US Army was doing fire and maneuver exercises as part of basic training in 1967.  They still do so.

Yes there are different ways of clearing a room.  You may be introduced to the concept but you're not going to learn how to clear a room in 6 hours.

Agreed, you won’t be prepped for a battle in 6 or 60 hours but it sure could be fun :). Is anyone on this forum is planning to use that knowledge - I seriously doubt it.

    • Before you tell me not to move to NJ, I know, it sucks. lol  I actually lived in Jersey most of my life and moved over to PA 5 years ago, and now I plan on coming back.  I bought my first firearms when I was a NJ resident, so I am pretty familiar with the laws, however I do have a couple questions... I have acquired a nice collection while living in PA and obviously want to make sure I follow the law when I come back.  I have a few AR's that I built myself.  As long as I pin the stock and replace the flash hider with a pinned/welded muzzle brake, I am good, right? Also, regarding the "Other/Non-NFA firearms", would it be the same deal?  I have a couple AR pistol style firearms that I built.  The stripped receivers were bought as "other" on the ATF form at the FFL.  So, if I ensure the barrel is at least 12.5" and there's a vertical foregrip, would I be good?   I appreciate any assistance.
    • Sorry, both are SPF.  Being picked up this week. Win M22  22 LR SPF to Ringwoodfrank.
    • Yup I see. Looks like right now you can only purchase the 2023-2024 permit still. I assume won't be able to purchase 24-25 season permit until July.
    • Just a heads-up for anyone who might also be in this situation. I joined USLS mid-April of 2022. Some time after renewing for 2023, I changed email providers, and dutifully reflected my new address on my account page. So, I have been anticipating renewal alerts at my new address, but those never arrived. I logged in to my account the other day, and was surprised to see that my subscription expired that same day. I went to my account main information page, confimed that my email address was correct, then went to the billing page, which showed my previous two payments, but which did not give me any apparent way to pay up for the new year. I requested support using the Customer Service form on the web site, but received no reply. Today I called their support number. Apparently changing the email address from my view of my account page did nothing to change the address that they use internally for billing purposes, including expiration notifications. Maybe they also use that address for replies to the support form, even if a different email address is entered there. Also, my account was set up to auto-renew and charge my credit card without my intervention, but that setting did not show on my account page in any obvious way. So, if you have USLS and have changed your email address since you last renewed, you might want to give them a call to ensure that they send renewal information to your correct address. The prospect of having legal coverage lapse while carrying in NJ was, for me, a less that confidence inspiring experience. I will note that the telephone-based customer service was excellent.
