I know lightweight and cheap are kinda an oxymoron . Have been looking at BCM’s 14.5 mlok. Jus wondering if you guys have other suggestions.

And its for wife.

Thanks in advance

Maybe jus get the upper, and wait for bcg and brake etc. I’m not sure the breakdown with the break, compliance, and bcg. Plus @JT Custom Guns did an awesome job on my Larue

Build it and get what you want.  With the brake, charging handle, and BCG your looking at $940!

Hear ya!

No, you need their brake.  It's a 14.5 inch barrel.

Get their brake AND bcg AND charging handle.

If I bought a BCM Uppert today, it would be this:

https://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-BFH-14-5-Mid-Length-ENHANCED-Light-Weight-p/bcm-urg-mid-14bfh-elw-mcmr-13.htm

on the other hand, this is a smoking deal:

http://www.primaryarms.com/troy-industries-16-5-56-upper-w-13-m-lok-rail-and-flip-sights-supg-5mf-16bt-00

all you have to do is swap the muzzle device.

Yes, I know it’s 16” but if you get the 14.5” version, the flash hider wil be pinned and swapping it for a N.J. Legal device will be more expensive and a pain in the ass. Also, I doubt you will really notice a difference in performance either way. It’s a little heavier than the BCM, and lighter than the LaRue, but it’s half the price.

I have 2 of these and have many friends and relatives with them. They run great. These uppers are the best value out there that I have seen in an AR upper (outside the LaRue deal).

Ya, that Larue deal was too good to be true.

Muzzle devices on a 5.56 carbine are over rated.  Not that they do not have their useful purposes in competitions, but for the regular Joe Schmo, A target crown with a thread protector to make it a recessed target crown has worked pretty good for me.  I was all set to build a M4 carbine with a 14.5" bbl, did all my homework on linear comps and in the end I decided it was just easier to go with a 16" bbl.  Less hassle, more fps, more accuracy same barrel length.

If you want light weight get the bcm upper without handguard and slap a magpul moe on it.

Or since @Mrs.Zeke is now an AR building pro maybe it's time to build your own.

Maybe....

she is kinda feeling like a big deal.

Are you set on buying a complete upper?

To go light you want an actual lightweight upper receiver with lightweight parts as well.  Lightweight receivers are typically billet, no forward assist, and a reduced brass deflector.

I use the 2A Armament Balios Lite set in my race rifle and love it.  I have an 18" build with a medium contour barrel (fluted) and it weighs in at 6.75 pounds with optic and empty mag.  I could trim another .5 pound with a lighter barrel and another .5 pound going to a lighter stock easy.  This is the set;

In fact, it feels about the same as a build I did on the below linked upper which was previously mentioned in this thread, which is impressive because it's got another 3.5" of barrel which as you know is heavy.

Can be made NJ compliant.  Magpul handguard is lightweight.  Optics Ready gas block saves on weight compared to a standard tower sight.

$377.47 adding on magpul HG, BCG + CH.

Stag Arms is sub par.
