If that's the case, then most gun owners are screwed.

You need to understand one and only one thing - a little more screwed or a little less screwed is still screwed and that you are.

This whole effort is to take the AR / AK type rifles off the table in the state of NJ - or doesn't anyone get that?

Everything will be negotiated and the sacrificial lamb will be the AR/AK types......they are not tolerated and or loved in the state of NJ at any level other than the Black Guns Matter crowd.

Sweeney will negotiate with ANJRPC to keep things in committee as long as the AR/AK is sacrificed.  My opinion is they are not fans of them either and see them as a blight to other shooting sports that are 'traditional' to them at CR.

Just look at Kathey Chatterton (pres I believe) - http://www.lesbaerteam.com/kathy.htm

You think this OLD school bullseye shooter cares about your AR/AK?

Sweeney was a favorable rated NRA guy until Sandy Hook - then he went 180dg the other way - jeezus this is not rocket science.....  The thing that will be negotiated away are any MIL style rifles other than those that need to be registered to shoot HP matches at the range.

Options if all else fails

AR can be converted from semi to manual if all else fails. If converted evil features no longer an issue

AR can be semi but converted to fixed mag with top loading  or loading through ejection port if all else fails, evil features no longer an issue

Not sure what can be done with AK, other than reverse conversion of those already converted

Already ordered a Monsterman grip for *any* of my ARs

Due in tomorrow's mail

The Mean loader has been here for months but I've not tested it out.

I could always epoxy a Magpul mag into the magwell of one of my RH rifles as my bedroom or trunk gun.

Always options available. Not great ones, but options nonetheless.

Wow talking about options and compliance. This is why NJ has the firearms laws they do and why they will continue to pass new ones til all that is left is over under shotguns. They certainly didn't comply in Colorado and it made their new 15 round mag limit useless. I'm willing to bet NJ compliance will by far outpace NY and CT.

S548 contains a serious error -

(c) a semiautomatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of the following characteristics:

  (i) a folding or telescoping stock;

  (ii) a thumbhole stock;

  (iii) a second handgrip or a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand;

  (iv) capacity to accept an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

   (v) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;

  (vi) a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned;

  (vii) a manufactured weight of fifty ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; or

  (viii) a semiautomatic version of an automatic rifle, shotgun or firearm

Since there is an automatic version of the Glock pistol (Glock 18) this would ban all Glock 17s, right?  It's under the PISTOL heading.

Shit by that logic the Beretta 93R would kill the 92 variants?!

that's why i'm asking....and also kinda wondering if that wording will get this shit up to the supreme court yet.

State Supreme Court, maybe, where you will loose. Never gonna get through the Federal District Court with some staff changes, either.  The leaves the ballot box and they are not worried about that either, unless RE taxes changes their mind.

no...we're well outnumbered for them to be safe by the ballot box.......which is why i keep going back to the needing outside help from a big 2a organization. if only there were a national organization. for rifles maybe. that cared about nj and nj's dues paying members.......can't quite think of one though.

Politicians and cops that enforce these unconstitutional laws need to removed from office and tge force....period

It will only come through a lawsuit, and only if a liberal judge or 2 die with a conservative president in office.

i will not comply. i suggest everyone do the same, the 2 scary feature law was already arbitrary and ridiculous. the idea that basically every semi auto black rifle will become illegal overnight is absurd, considering most are already compliant with the nonsense regulations that exist. to anyone already buying compliance parts to "get ready" YOU are part of the problem not the solution. i suggest you move to NY or CA and stop spreading the disease of compliance to " free states " that are already being overrun with loyal democrats fleeing NJ

What would be the impact on all shooting ranges and FFLs in the state if this gets through? RTSP is running ads pushing sales of ARs, even lowering prices. If there's no grandfather clause then I assume anyone who doesn't comply can no longer go to NJ to train. Those ranges would lose a vast amount of money on sales, rentals and port fees. I know RTSP is planning on opening a second location in Union but I'm concerned this new legislation could put a stop to it if the can't find a way to make it profitable. Can these businesses continue to profit with such a severe reduction in their product line?

I've only been in the shooting community just over 3 years and love the sporting aspect of it. I've invested quite a bit (though not nearly as much as some) in this activity. I'm trying to get as up to speed as I can but there's so much to learn, I still feel like a newb

Phil Murphy vomitus in his speech today:

"We have long had strong firearm laws that have kept guns out of the wrong hands and at the same time protected the second amendment rights of sportsmen."

Apparently, only sportsmen have rights.  Golfers get pistols, female teachers get mace. R-i-g-h-t Philistine.

also from his speach:

To my partners in the legislature: I ask you to send me the bills, among others, to reaffirm our support for women's health and Planned Parenthood; to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour; to promote equal pay for women; to give every worker the peace of mind of earned sick leave; to tear down barriers to voting; and, to strengthen our gun laws.

And, I promise you now that they will be met with a signing ceremony instead of a veto pen.

what the hell does that mean?

Here's the 'promise' list from his campaign website.  Note that he favors registration:

Specifically, as governor Phil Murphy would:

  • Sign commonsense legislation that Christie vetoed: Phil Murphy would start by signing every piece of gun violence prevention legislation that Governor Christie has vetoed. These bills would have enacted bipartisan and sensible solutions, such as keeping guns out of the hands of gang members and domestic abusers.
  • Mandate gun safety training: No one should be able to purchase a firearm without first attending a gun safety training course.
  • Promote smart gun technology: We must regain our position as a leader in the smart gun movement by requiring all gun retailers to carry at least one smart gun once they are commercially available.
  • Keep guns out of the hands of those suffering with mental illness: New Jersey already requires background checks, but it should follow the lead of nearly half the states in the U.S. and require timely reporting of mental illness episodes to the national background check database.
  • Tax gun sales to prevent violence: All gun sales should be subject to a tax that will fund law enforcement, drug treatment centers, and mental health services.
  • Strengthen regulations on gun transfers: Phil Murphy would make it a crime to sell guns without conducting a mandatory background check, and would require individuals to register their firearms kept in the state.
  • Work with neighboring states to promote gun violence prevention: An estimated 80 percent of guns involved in crimes in New Jersey come from out of state. As governor, Phil Murphy will engage partners in neighboring states to find common ground on gun violence prevention efforts.
  • Direct the Attorney General to vigorously defend our gun laws: Governor Christie has allowed the Attorney General’s office to relax enforcement of our gun safety laws, including laws that prohibit illegally transporting guns into New Jersey from out of state. As governor, Phil Murphy would direct the Attorney General to vigorously defend and enforce our gun laws, rather than to act as an agent of the NRA.

i already knew he was completely ignorant about gun laws already on the books, also that he is a rabid anti gun socialist. i meant more specifically the part of his speech where he plans to " tear down barriers to voting " what exactly does he believe is a "barrier to voting"?!? currently all thats required to vote in nj is the ability to consume oxygen, and thats only if you ignore all the dead people who still vote somehow.

sorry, taken from his campaign page

  1. Making voter registration easier through:
    • Automatic voter registration: Five states have automatic voter registration at their Motor Vehicle Commissions (MVC). This means that residents are automatically registered to vote when they visit the MVC unless they opt out. Governor Christie vetoed a law that would make NJ the sixth such empowering state.
    • Online voter registration: There is no reason why our residents should be able to bank and shop online, but not register to vote. 38 states have already moved towards online voter registration in some form. NJ should follow suit.
    • Same-day voter registration: Sixteen states have authorized voters to register the day of elections. NJ requires that our residents register 21 days before an election – Phil believes we should eliminate this requirement.
  2. Allowing early voting: 21 states allow residents to vote early at the polls prior to election day — easing the burden for working families that cannot get to the polls in person. Governor Christie vetoed a bill that would have required counties to establish between three and seven polling places available for early voting during the 15 days prior to the election.
  3. Allowing 17-year-olds to vote in primaries if they will be 18 by election day: Currently, New Jersey citizens who turn 18 after the primary but before the general election are put in an unfair position where they have to vote for the candidates on the ballot but did not have a say in choosing who is on the ballot. 24 states allow these voters to vote in the primary as well, and New Jersey should join them.
