Hello to all, Its been a long time since I purchased a handgun (30 years or so) and I'm finding conflicting info so I would like to find out how everything works. When I went to my local PD they gave me a package of stuff and said I had to be fingerprinted first. I have had my FID since 1978 and was fingerprinted then. When I moved to the town I live in now (Raritan Boro in 1998) I changed my address with no problem but 2 years or so later my wallet was stolen and my FID was in my wallet. When I went back to the PD they gave me a little trouble and made me reapply and I ended up having to go to court but the judge granted my request on appeal I was fingerprinted again at this time. I made the appointment to get fingerprinted but got a call from the police dept saying I did not need to get finger printed so I cancelled my appointment. Now in searching on the internet to make sure everything was correct I thought I saw something that said you have to be fingerprinted every time you purchase a handgun in NJ , I need to know if this is true so I can make sure I have done everything I can to ensure a good decision with least possible wait. Another question is  there a one month wait on purchasing in NJ? If anyone can give me the up to date requirements I would be very grateful

I just went last week in my township(08053) for the first time in 15+ years. Had to fill out a 2 page application. Could do it online if you want. I was there and had time so just did it there.   Already had my fid card from when I turned 18 in 1992. Lol. Had change of address in 2003. Yea it has changed a bit. I had my prints done in 2012 for a job. They (police) give you a link to go to to set up an appointment to get prints done then the place sends them to your township. Not sure of the cost to get prints done but I had to pay $20 for the company to send the prints from 2012 to the police. All done online.

So between the $20 and 3 permits I'm invested $26 so far.

Good luck

Nick

If you're getting your prints done by "Ident-to-Go,"  I think it's on the order of $59-60 for the initial set of prints. But that also serves as the NJSP criminal background check. For subsequent P2P or other requests, You need the criminal background check itself. That's done via this URL - NJ 212A Criminal Background Check...  But your municipality has to give you information to do it. The cost for this is $20.00.

I got my NJFID back in the 80s and had ink fingerprints. Since then, I have to pay $2 per P2P and I never had to do anything online or get any new electronic prints! Perhaps this is due to my local PD being pro 2A?

WECOME!!!!!!

You shouldn't need to be fingerprinted again, but I have heard of some towns making people do it repeatedly.

You cannot buy more than one handgun in any 30 day period - so when you get a permit you can use it right away, but must wait at least 30 days after your first purchase to use a second permit.

Thanks to all who have replied, I only had a one page application to fill out and the officer I met at first said I had to go be fingerprinted even though I had been fingerprinted before so I made the appointment and paid online the 60 dollars for it. Later that day the officer called me on the phone and apologized and said I did not need to be fingerprinted again. I did the online 212a already and the officer actually drove to my house to pick up the paperwork for my P2P. I had been "inked" at the police station in 2007 when my wallet was stolen and I needed to replace my card so they did have my prints on file. I was checking as I thought I had read somewhere online that for the P2P you needed to be fingerprinted every time and wanted to make sure I had done everything as it needed so they could not claim I had not done something that was needed. The last time I purchased a handgun all I did was go to the police station , talk to the woman in the Chiefs office for a few minutes filled out the paperwork and waited while she brought it in to the chief and came out with my permit it sure has gotten complicated. Its been a week now hopefully it wont take too many more weeks . Thanks again for the replies.

Currently selling my XDS 4.0 in 9mm (listed on the MEWE app), as I just bought an Shield Performance center in 9mm, and since I don't have a need for two small carry guns so I am selling the XDS.

Currently have two valid permits and though I don't need to buy anything, it seems like a waste to let to the permits go to waste. Here is my current collection, all purchased in the last 3 years-

      Glock 17 Gen 4
      Glock 23 Gen 4
Sig p226 in 22LR and conversion slide for 9mm
      Shield performance center 9mm
Colt trooper mark 4 (1970s, was my dads old service revolver)
      Ruger GP100 in 357
      Ruger SR1911 in 45
      M&P pro series in 9mm
XDS 4.0 in 9mm (currently looking to sell)

previously owned an M&P 40c but sold that....

What is my collection missing? Looking into CZ 75B or CZ 75 P01....
      Thought or opinions?

I watch a lot of YouTube, and subscribe to many gun channels, Hickok45, The Yankee Marshal, Demoliation Ranch etc......

Recently The Yankee Marshall has been posting a lot of his "custom" Glocks, which aren't really glocks!?!?
Appearently Lone wolf Distributors makes a "Timber Wolf" frame, which accepts a glock slide but the grip angle is more like a 1911.....

Anyone have one? Anyone held one?

As the title says, I typed in the the gun price request form, on a windows laptop, and got submission errors.  used two different browsers, firefox and windows explorer.

In case any dealers are reading:  Looking for M&P prop series in 9mm.  5 inch version.    SKU: 178048 or 178010
Want 17 rounds pinned to 15 but would take 10 rounders if that's what we could get.

    • Ditto.  Long way to November Elections and people lose interest fast.  Time will tell.
    • I believe his point is the overall quality of life. Cost of living, freedom, pretty soon sanctuary status. If Murphy gets even half of his stated wish list, it will be 5 times the mess. We're bailing out for all of the reason stated above. If it was only about compliance, I'd be happy to flip him the bird, but it's not, so I'll flip him the bird on my way out. Got to get out while the gettin is good. Although I think my last act as a subject of New Jermany will be to make a donation to one or more of the pending lawsuits. Hopefully they give old Phil "inbred" Murphy an ulcer.
    • I've shot at the Tobyhanna and Wallenpaupack ranges. As someone else said at $30 it's a bargain. You do have to watch the other shooters. On a rare occasion i've seen a stupid human trick such as a guy on the 50 yard rifle range just walking down to change a target while several people were shooting on the 25 yard pistol range which normally isn't an issue except there is no berm separating the 2 ranges. I called a quick cease fire and myself and another guy went to politely remind this gentleman that he should ask for a cease fire when he wants to change targets. His reply was " you guys are 20 yards to my right what's the problem"? I guess he never heard of a ricochet or poor marksmanship. He did ask for a cease fire the next few times he wanted to change his target though. As to round counts I thought it was only 3 in a rifle and 6 in a handgun but I could be mistaken.
    • I could be wrong but I don't think you have a choice. If you live in a town that has a PD you must use them....If the NJSP are your local police that you would go to them.
