Oldie but Goodie

Recommended Posts

Some of you may know I like to tinker with my collection. My old circa 1978 Nickel Colt Govt MK IV Series 70 seen its days. Many transitions of parts and finishes. I finally decided to spend some bux on it since it served me so well over the years.

So here is what was done:

- Stripped and finished in brushed hard chrome flats and chrome mat rounds.

- Novak sights cut.

- All lettering re-engraved.

- Ejection port lowered.

- Trijicon HD sights installed.

- New trigger, (forget model).

- New Wilson Flat Wire and Guide Rod installed.

- New Main Spring housing.

- New VZ Grips with Super Scoop.

Pictures don’t do it justice. Hard to get decent shots without shadows or glare.

Only thing left is I should replace the barrel. Its orig.

Here is what it looked like after the very first face lift and how it evolved from there.

Gold Electroplate:

Very nice.  I like.  Colt the "Timex" of 1911s. I have come to believe the COLT 1911 is worth every penny spent on it.  If NJ was not suck a PIA about handgun ownership I would probably be cash poor with a safe full of COLT 1911s.

Thanks. It was the first semi I carried. Figured it needed some love after all these years. No more candy coatings.[emoji6]

Did you regret the electro plating or was it the trend back then? Love the brushed chrome look now. Great lookin 1911!

Ya mean the gold? Nah.... decided just wasn’t me. Also the fine layer of gold didn’t hide scratches.

Nice, how does it group? If the groups are bad replace the barrel.

Haven’t had it to the range yet. Next time I drag my 1911s out, I will find out. Plater said he wasn’t impressed. I told him the barrel was orig. I was planning replacing it. Just low on funds from this project. [emoji57]
